There is so much to see in France. Millions of people come to France yearly to savour the sights, climate and gastronomy! France is the number location for overseas property - what makes Property in France so attractive? Where do you start? France covers nearly 550,000 square kilometres with the largest land area among EU countries. France is rich in a wide variety of landscapes, from the coastal plains in the north and west to mountain ranges of the Alps in the south-east, the Massif Central in the south-central and Pyrenees in the south-west. Bordered by 3 seas: Mediterranean, Atlantic Ocean and the English Channel. The main rivers are the Seine, the Loire, the Garonne, and the Rhône. Well, here are some recommended destinations: Five United Nations educational, scientific and cultural organization sites in France are worth a visit thanks to their "humbling architecture" and "terrific landscapes". First on the list is Chartres (near Paris) cathedral which "has been described as the most beautiful building on Earth". Likewise recommended is the Palace of Versailles (south of Paris) which some call the most perfect building in France with works of art and stunning statues hoarded by King Louis Xiv. Versailles is renowned for its château, the Palace of Versailles, was the capital of the kingdom of France for over a century, from 1682 to 1789. It is now a wealthy suburb of Paris and remains an important administrative and judicial centre. Attraction 3 on your visit list : a trip on the Canal du Midi in Languedoc Roussillon which "oozes calm" and prides itself on flamingo filled up lagoons. Also to the south, the Roman port of Arles is fourth on the list for its historic remains, including a Roman amphitheatre. Provence is the sunny bit at the bottom of France. There's a seaside bit (the Côte d'Azur,) a marshy bit (the Camargue) and a hilly bit (the Alps). Provence is a region of southeastern France on the Mediterranean coast on the borders with Italy. It is part of the administrative region of Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur. Traditionally the region of Provence comprises the departments of Var, Vaucluse, Bouches-du-Rhône, Alpes-de-Haute-Provence, AlpesMaritimes and parts of Hautes-Alpes. While the city of Carcassonne (near the Pyrenees) is worth a trip, with the fortified Cité de Carcassonne is "undeniably a lovely sight". No wonder Languedoc Roussillon Property is so popular. The fortress, which was thoroughly restored in 1853 was added to the UNESCO list of World Heritage Sites in 1997. Fortification consists of a double ring of ramparts and 53 towers. Carcassonne today is allegedly haunted by few ghosts, including a fat man who stands and stares at tourists! The Romans built some of their finest architecture in Nîmes. Many of these were built by Marcus Vipsanius Agrippa, including the Maison Carrée or square house, so called because it's rectangular!
