Prognosis In general, patients treated with TB do well with minimal or no sequelae. Risk factors for mortality include increased age, delay in diagnosis, extend of TB involvement, the need for mechanical ventilation, and concomitant diagnosis of ESRD, diabetes and immunosuppression esp HIV. In disseminated TB mortality rate has been reported as high as 38%, and if therapy is delayed for more than 6 weeks, mortality from TB peritonitis approaches 60%.
