Before putting the unit into operation and starting the treatment,
read these operating instructions carefully.

Thank you for choosing the UV-Buddy from www.beatpsoriasis.com The UV-Buddy is
the original and most technically advanced wide-band phototherapy device available. It is
both convenient and economical and been proven highly effective by various clinical trials
for the treatment of many skin diseases. While several imitation products exist, rest
assured that you are using the latest product available. In order to achieve the best
possible results, please follow these instructions exactly. In most cases, improvements in
psoriasis can be seen in as little as 4 weeks and sometimes only several days, but very
noticeable improvements often take 2 months or more. We suggest a minimum of 3
months is required to gauge if you respond well to this treatment. We hope that you will
be satisfied with the UV-Buddy and look forward to hearing from you again soon. Please
do not hesitate to contact us if you require additional information or advice on using the

Please note that all invoices and credit cards are charged in AUSTRALIAN dollars, or
$AUD. Export orders are charged at the appropriate advertised AMERICAN dollar rates,
converted to AUSTRALIAN using the daily international money exchange rate as
published at www.xe.com Therefore, prices quoted in American are close approximations
only due to exchange rate fluctuations, and possibly credit card and bank charges. E.g. if
you have purchased a product advertised at $495 AMERICAN, then your credit card will
have been charged for $685 AUSTRALIAN using the exchange rate below. Exchange
rates change on a daily basis and some banks use a different rate and may also charge
their customer’s a conversion fee or other bank fees for international transactions etc.

SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS

Read the operating instructions carefully before using the UV-Buddy for the first
time.
UV-Buddy emits intense UV radiation which can be dangerous sunburn/skin burns, conjunctivitis, skin cancer and keratitis (retina
damage) - if used improperly, especially when overdosed.


New operate the appliance without hte UV safety goggles. You must wear the
goggles at all times. Always keep your eyes closed, even when wearing the
protective goggles



Never look directly into the light with your eyes open. If treating your face, keep
eyes closes and goggles on at all times.



Do not use the UV-Buddy if your skin has been over exposed to the sunlight on
that day.



Do not use the UV-Buddy more than once per day



Always use the protective goggles supplied with the UV-Buddy to protect your
eyes against overexposure to ultraviolet radiation



Never use the UV-Buddy if the timer, power cord, or other electrical mechanisms
are damaged or do not function properly



If your skin feels taut after an exposure, you may use appropriate moisturizing
cream. Also reduce of skip the next exposure session



Never let the UV-Buddy be used by children or person who suffers from skin
cancer



Always remove the plug from the socket after use.



Perform phototherapy only as described in the operating instructions or as
recommended by a doctor



Never use the UV-Buddy if the timer, power cord, or other electrical mechanisms
are damaged or do not function properly



Do no use the UV-Buddy near water, outside or in the bath or shower



Do not use the UV-Buddy after photosensitization of the skin by cosmetics or
medicine.



Cover those parts of your body you don’t want to treat.

By use as agreed skin reactions and skin irritations are not excluded at every
time. The result of long time treatment are side effects, like erythema, bubbles
and erosions, pigmentation and itching.

Hazards when using the equipment:
The UV-Buddy has been built with the best available components and materials. The
equipment must be used;


only for that purpose for which it was intended,



only when in perfect working order.

Improper use can endanger the health of the user and/or third parties (including damage
to the skin and eyes) as well as impairing the equipment or other items of property.
Any faults which might impair the safety of the equipment must be remedied immediately.
Proper use:

The UV-Buddy is a UV radiation appliance for the treatment of skin diseases.
Any other use of the equipment going beyond this shall be deemed improper
and may be hazardous.
The operator may operate the equipment only if all the user information
contained in these operating instructions is observed at all times. Failure to do
so may render the manufacturer's warranty null and void and jeopardize the
success of the therapy.
The operator undertakes to observe the prescribed schedule for inspection and
maintenance work and the replacement of wear parts (e.g. lamps) this work
entails.
The company Beat Psoriasis (Australia) shall not be liable for any damage
caused by the use or improper use of the equipment.
Contra-indications: Do not use the UV-Buddy if you have any of the following conditions,
or have been advised against phototherapy by a medical practitioner.


hyperthyroidism



lupus erythematosus



tumorous skin changes



diseased hyperphotosensitivity (e.g. xeroderma pigmentosa)



porphyrin disease



floride tuberculosis or other floride processes



accompanying medical treatment with potential skin damage or intensified
photosensitivity



pregnancy, because there is no experience

5.

HOW TO USE THE UV-BUDDY
1. Place the UV-Buddy on a level surface. The appliance can be adjusted to 2
positions.
2. Plug the UV-Buddy into your electrical outlet.
3. Consult the table below to determine an estiamted phototherapy session
duration
4. Put on the protective goggles.
5. Turn the dial of the timer to the right to the desired time. The timer will
automatically shut off the appliance after the set time has elapsed. It is
recommended to also use another secondary timing method, such as a clock
radio or other elctronic alarm to avoid possible over exposure.
6. Position yourself in front of the appliance with a minimum distance of 10cm
between your face or body and the UV-Buddy.
7. Turn your face or body from time to time to get an even exposure.
8. Always unplug the appliance after use.
9. You may keep track of the overall number of sessions you have had with the
memory dials on the front face of the UV-Buddy. These serve no purpose
other than counting your sessions.

MAINTENANCE & CLEANING

First of all, remove the plug from the socket and let the UV-Buddy cool down. Then you may clean

the outside of the appliance with a soft, damp cloth. Make sure that no water gets into the
appliance. The reflector should only be dedusted with a very soft brush.
Do not use any liquid such as petrol or acetone.

7.

REPLACEMENT

The tube lamps have a normal operating life of about 300 hours, which is the approximate
equivalent of 1-2 years depending on the frequency of use for 1 person. The tube lamps
or any other electrical parts should only be replaced by qualified electrician. Never
disassemble the appliance unless you are a qualified electrician.

PHOTOTHERAPY SESSION TIMES

It is important that the user read these instructions thoroughly before use of this
appliance.


Do not exeed the recommended session times.



It is recommended to NOT exceed 35 hours of exposure in 12 months.



Should your skin become taut and tender after a session, it is advised that you
reduce the session by e.g. 5 minutes or skip it completely.



Max exposure time for one session is 35 minutes. Avoid overexposure.



After finishing a program, a maintenance session of 35 minutes a week is sufficient
genreally sufficient to continue treatment.



You may start a new exposure program one month after a program has finished.

Duration of the phototherapy session in minutes

You must remember that the chart above is only a guide and
recommendations. Phototherapy times vary for each person and you may
find that you need shorter sessions, or longer time to recover between each
session. You must avoid sun burn at all costs and reduce or skip a session to
avoid hot, tingly or burnt skin.
Globes should be replaced at least every 300 operating hours to maintain peak
performance and provide the best possible results.

WARRANTY AND LIABILITY

In principle, the General Terms of Sales and Delivery of www.beatpsoriasis.com shall
apply. These shall be submitted to the operator upon the signing of contract at the very
latest. The warranty for the unit is 12 months (not for lamps). There shall be no warranty
or liability claims in the event of personal injury or damage to property if these are
attributable to one or more of the following causes:


the use of the UV-Buddy for a purpose other than that for which it was intended



failure to observe the information on the assembly, commissioning, operation and
maintenance of the unit contained in the operating instructions



improper assembly,
UV-Buddy



operation of the UV-Buddy with defective and/or malfunctioned safety and
protective equipment



unauthorized structural modifications of the UV-Buddy



inadequate checking of wear parts

commissioning,

operation

and

maintenance



repairs performed by persons who are not authorized by the manufacturer



catastrophes caused by foreign bodies or acts of God

ENVIRONMENTAL PROTECTION

According to care and careful use, the lifetime of the appliance is between 5-10 years.
When the maximum life time is reached, please return the lamps or complete appliances
to us. We will ensure that they are disposed of in an environmentally acceptable manner.
