The Truman Company is a trusted source for coin dealing

Roger Westerling can often be found at the Truman Company’s Roseville office accompanied by his rescue dog Sonny.
Sonny is a faithful companion and a friendly dog — so friendly that some of Westerling’s customers stop by just to see the dog!

For Roger Westerling, owner of the Truman Company,
rare coins are a life-long passion, and a daily inspiration.
He's been working in the trade since he was 17 years old, and now, 40
years later, he's still at it, with a customer-first approach, a trusting client
base, and unbeatable experience.
His motto for running a coin and precious metal company: "It's all about
taking care of people and giving them a fair price," he says.

His approach is to make sure the customer's happy and getting a good
price, and he's happy to do the work for that — he'll gladly make appraisals and offers, and do home visits to help families with precious heirlooms
figure out what their coin collections are worth.

were often given to elected officials and dignitaries.

He recalls one coin that came through the shop — it was an extremely
rare 1921 $20 St. Gauden's gold piece. A family had brought it in hoping to
get a sound appraisal, which he gave them. In fact, his quote ended up being
a better offer than the family got when they sold the piece at auction, by a
margin of $15,000!

Have a coin with family lore but few specifics behind it? Stop at the Truman Company's Roseville office, where walk-ins are more than welcome.
Having grown up working in his uncle's coin shop in California, seeing people walk through the doors "reminds me of the old coin shop days," he says.

WE BUY,

TRADE

With his expertise and his wide network of connections, Westerling can
offer pricing that's competitive with any coin dealer in the country, big or
small.
It's that expertise that has helped him gain the trust of innumerable repeat clients, who swear by him.

Westerling learned the rare coin trade from his Uncle Truman — Truman
took him under his wing and got him interested in rare and unusual coins
when he was still in high school. Years later, that passion remains — he relishes in the history behind old coins.
"If the coin could talk, what stories would it tell?" he ponders.

He's been lucky enough to see every variety of rare coin come through the
shop, including "trial coins" — the first imprints of new coin patterns, which

Washington County Fair
Five days of fun, food and thrills at the

144th Annual Washington County Fair
Janice Collova
Review Staff

Fair president Dan Dolan says fairgoers have told him it’s one of the best
county fairs around. Fair entertainment
manager Liz Dietsche says there’s something for everyone, and it’s a chance for
folks to forget about their worries and
cares.
Just what are they talking about?
Why, the Washington County Fair, one
of the metro area’s oldest and most
beloved traditions. The address is 12300
N. 40th St., Lake Elmo, MN, and the
dates are July 29 through August 2. See
what all the excitement is for yourself,
and bring your family and friends!
Those familiar with the fair might
recall the many animal exhibitions
and judgings the fair hosts. All the
usual exhibitions and judging will take
place again this year with one exception: the poultry. Because of Minnesota’s recent bird flu outbreak, the
county fair has decided not to feature

Fair fun...

Above, the popular English Horse
Show is returning this year to the
Washington County Fair. The horses
and riders will begin their competitions at 7 p.m. Saturday and 9:30 a.m.
Sunday. At left, Gold Star Amusements
carnival rides will be thrilling fairgoers at the 144th annual Washington
County Fair.

continued from page 3
For more information, visit www.
washingtoncountyfair.org.
Opening Day - Wednesday, July 29
Kick off your Washington County
Fair experience with the 4-H Horse
Show at 8:30 a.m. The horse show is
just one of dozens of 4-H events hosted
by the fair, so stay tuned.
“The 4-H is bigger than ever [this
year],” says Dolan.
Ms. Jaz-ee, balloonologist and fair
favorite, is back for more twisting balloon fun. Her first of many shows during the whole fair begins today at 11:30
a.m.
You won’t have to wait long after
lunchtime to enjoy some musical entertainment. The LaValle Jazz Cats jazz
combo will delight your ears with
some smooth tunes at 1 p.m. You can
hear them again at 3 p.m. while settling down to an afternoon snack of
fair favorites like cheese curds, stuffed
baked potatoes, sweet corn from Hooley
Hall, and malts from the FFA booth.
New to the fair this year is Kevin
Doely, a musical ventriloquist whose
featured puppets include Elvis and
Johnny Cash. His first show begins
today at 1:30 p.m. with many more to
follow.
The Swinetime Pig Races are back by

popular demand. The pigs’ first charge
for cookies is today at 2 p.m., with more
races to succeed for the next five days.
Emcee Matt is guaranteed to “uplift people’s spirits,” says Dietsche.
The traditional Opening Day Parade
will begin at 6 p.m. The classic line-up
of old cars, old tractors, and floats will
cruise the streets of the fairgrounds.
Afterward, test your skills on the balance beam at the Pickup See-Saw Contest, featured at the Grandstand at 7
p.m. It’s the one Grandstand event during the entire fair that you can get in for
free.
End the day with more jazz at 7:30
p.m., this time with the Andy Colburn
Jazz Quartet.
Family Fun Day - Thursday, July 30
Test your brains and brawn with the
Paul Bunyan Show at 10 a.m. Contes-

tants race against the clock and each
other to cut a log by hand, climb to the
top of a pole, and chop down a pole with
an axe.
Advanced sales on carnival rides will
be discontinued, but from now until the
end of the fair, you can buy unlimited
access to all rides for only $22. Today
the sale begins at noon and ends at 4
p.m. Note that this sale will be suspended on Saturday and resumed on
Sunday.
Magician Brian Richards returns to
the fair with his comedic magic show.
He’ll certainly bring a smile to your fair
experience with his first show starting
today at noon and his following shows
continuing throughout the rest of the
fair.
Get your fair share of truck and tractor pulls with Sneaky Pete’s Garden
Tractor Pull and the Western Wisconsin

Truck Pullers. The former will start at
6:30 p.m. and the latter will take center
stage at the Grandstand at 7 p.m. Ticket
prices for the Western Wisconsin Truck
Pullers are $5 for ages 6 and older, and
$2 for ages 5 and younger.
Dance and Entertainment Studios
will enthrall teenage fairgoers with a
teen night event starting at 8:30 p.m.
Senior Citizen’s Day Friday, July 31
Senior citizens (ages 65 and up) can
get into the fair for only $2! This special
admission price will be discontinued at
1 p.m.
Starting today, a Transformer will
roam the fair to meet and greet fairgoers. Keep your eyes peeled — though
it will roam at certain times, you won’t
find those times posted on the fair’s
website.
“That’s the surprise in it,” says
Dietsche.
Today unlimited access for all carnival
rides will be sold from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m.

its first of many shows today at 11 a.m.
This is a puppet show with a mechanical twist — all the puppets are controlled via remote control.
Another mechanical twist you can
make a part of your fair-going adventure
is a helicopter ride, a new event to the
fair this year. For today only, from 11
a.m until close, those eager for a ride
around the Stillwater area can head over
to the stand at the north end of the fairgrounds and board the aircraft. An additional fee will be charged.
Feel a bit of Irish luck with the
O’Shea Irish Dancers, who begin their
jig at 5 p.m.
Tonight the Grandstand will feature
the bike and four-wheeler acrobatic
spectacular ATV Big Air Tour — Quad
4 Free Style, starting at 7 p.m. Ticket
prices are $10 for ages 6 and older, and
$5 for ages 5 and younger.
New to the fair’s musical scene this
year is Coyote Wild, a country pop band
whose music will have you dancing.
They take the stage at 8 p.m.

Fire Safety Day - Saturday, Aug. 1
Encourage your kids to participate
in the fair-going competition with the
Kiddie Pedal Pull. Registration begins at
9:30 a.m., and the actual event wheels
off at 10 a.m.
In honor of Fire Safety Day, fire
department displays and demonstrations will be presented from 10 a.m. to
4 p.m.
If you’re looking for a romantic lilt
to your fair-going experience, be swept
off your feet by the Autumn Serenade
barbershop quartet, performing at noon.
Didn’t get enough Irish luck from the
O’Shea Dancers Friday night? They’ll
tap their way back to the stage for
another performance today at 3 p.m.
For something more adventurous, visit
the Grandstand at 6 p.m. for the return
of the ever-popular event, the Demolition Derby. Watch cars smash each other
to smithereens for the prices of $12 for
ages 11 and older, and $6 for ages 10 and
younger. Tickets will be sold at the Demo
Derby Booth starting at 3 p.m., and
before that at the Fair Office in Building
“B” from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
For something less noisy, enjoy the
English Horse show at 7 p.m.
The Rockin’ Hollywoods will have
you rockin’ and rollin’ on the dance

floor at 8:30 p.m. Dietsche says this
band is so popular that fans will wait for
them to perform even when it’s raining.
All-American Day - Sunday, Aug. 2
Though it’s the last day of the fair
and things begin to quiet down, there
are still thrills to experience from dawn
until dusk.
Llamas will be exhibited all day, from
9 a.m. to 7 p.m.
Didn’t have enough of British horsemanship Saturday night? The English
Horse Show will return at 9:30 a.m.
The Autumn Serenade also returns,
this time at 1 p.m.
Also at 1 p.m. is a chance to travel
back in time. Experience sports in a
way you might have never experienced
before with the Vintage Baseball Game.
The Sawtooth Brothers will change
the musical mood a bit with some bluegrass starting at 3:30 p.m.
Today will be the last day to buy
unlimited access to all the fair rides for
only $22. The sale starts at 5 p.m. and
ends at 9 p.m.
All buildings and gates close at 8 p.m.
