"What are the factors determine the design of Malaysian Curriculum?"

Through classroom discussion, these are few points that should be addressed:

1) some pupils are able to write but unable to speak fluent English (lead to another
question; "why does KSSR combine listening and speaking skills in one modul?"
some idea for point 1 : both listening and speaking is combined, in order to ensure
students are able to produce language(speaking) as well as receiving (listening) it, thus
improving fluency overall.

2) Learners do not have strong grammar (most are Manglish) - thus, grammar modul is
introduced.
point 2 : grammar is now seen as one of the important component that is essential to
aid language learning.

CURRICULUM CHANGE
1)What are the changes needed in stakeholders, to enable curriculum implementation
in the Malaysian context ELT?
In terms of teachers, school administrators, shareholders or ALL.
In terms of KBSR or KSSR or both.

2)What are the current developments of Malaysian English curriculum that may have
caused mixed reviews?

FOUNDATIONS OF CURRICULUM
3)How does the Western philosopies relate to our NPE ?
In terms of main ideas
In terms of curriculum implementation

KSSR AS THE NEW CURRICULUM
4)How will KSSR help achieve students’ aspirations (as stated in the Blueprint)?
TEACHER AS A DECISION MAKER

Planning (Before teaching)

-Consider what/who/how you want to teach
-Significant in determining the success/failure of the lesson
-Decides what to do in the given time to teach, e.g.: 30 minutes (what to do?)
-Creating supportive condition for learning

Implementing (While teaching)
-Pacing how much time you have to implement
-Instructional strategies
-Adaptive to the situation
-Changing the task to suit stdts level
-Feedback
-Values

Assessing (While and after)

-Determine purposes of assessment (Types, Ways)
-Assessment tools
-Assess after input
How to provide feedback
-Set the benchmark
Analyse the strengths and weaknesses of the current English Language syllabus (KSSR)

Strenghts

- Language Arts: Bringing in elements of fun in learning
- Grammar only at Year 3: Allows the kid to focus on phoneyics first
- Phonetics in Year 1 : Pronunciation
- Target skill of the day: Only 1 focused in one lesson (except foe listening and
speaking which is combined)
- Modules: Flexibility = Creative teachers
Strength: Focus on developing sts' basic foundation
strengths:1. learner centered approach , students are encouraged to make own
discovery about learning. 2. understanding of students are assessed individually., 3.a
range of strategies are used to assess students understanding such as observation,
presentation,etc.
Weaknesses

- Teaching content not uniformed: Standardize the teaching content for everyone.
additional point for weaknesses of KSSR; assessment, teachers have different
interpretation of the bands
Weakness; Teachers are not well versed with the SBA system, need more in-house
training. Teachers tend to conduct formative assessment (instead of portfolio/ students'
work) as part of SBA- which adds to more mini exams
Weaknesses of KSSR
1. Concept
To what extend all the teachers are clear about KSSR?

2. Assessment:
How clear are the rubrics? (Reliability & Validity are questionable)

from the four major philosophies (idealism, realism, pragmatism and existentialism)
which one is actually most related to our KSSR?
pragmatism,existensialism..cause they cultivate critical thinking..can also relate to
autonomous learner,tr as facilitator
