The Coalition to Save Cambria and San Simeon has filed t'wo lawsuits against SanLuis Obispo County basedon the Board ofSupervisorsapprovalofchangesto the North Coast Area Plan. The North Coast Alliance was formed in July, 1997 - the result of demandsby Cambria community members for an advocacy group dedicated to the education of concemed citizens who wish to "Save the Coast" - particularly from advancing developmental corporations such as Hearst and East West Ranch. Greenspace openedescrow on al2-acre parcel in the StrawberryCanyon has sectionof Lodge Hill as part of a precedent-setting joint project with cambria's Parks,Recreationand Open SpaceCommission @ROS). A grant application to finance the bulk of the purchase price was submitted by PRos Dec. 8. If the grant is awardedin April, Greenspace be requiredto raisl will funds1o complete the purchase.ln 1997, Greenspace was successfulin raising $1 17000 to purchasean adjacent4-acreparcel.Easements will allow Greenspaci and PROS to createa public nature trail through the two parcels and, eventually, all the way to the ocean. Cambria attomey Bill Raver has donated many hours of pro bono time to the projectand was instrumentalin working out the complexitiesbfthe purchase. Many thanks to the family of Greenspace Director Wayne Attoe for selecting Greenspace the recipient ofa $20,000cashdonation.The donationwas madeby as Wayne's father,OsbomeAttoe, whose desirewas to preserve wildlife habitatand/ or scenicareas. The senior Attoe asked each of his three children, Wayne, Carol JeanAttoe and Lavonne Hellen to select an environmental group to receive one-third of the funds, and all selected Greenspace.We are currently seeking an appropriatesite to purchasewith the funds so generouslygiven by the Osbome Attoe, who passed away shortly after making the donation.

Shedid it all in an era when it was still unusual for women to hold key decision making positions, especially in the male-dominatedJields of advertising and publishing.
