Thinking about your next vacation? Inspire and give yourself a chance to take
holidays using sharing economy methods. There are many opportunities for saving
some cash, sharing idle resources and having fun with friends and strangers. In
this activity, we want you to plan your next summer vacation using as many
sharing economy alternatives as possible.
Some facts about holidays and sharing economy:
About 80% of Airbnb’s hosts rent out the home they live in. (in London and
Edinburgh)
60% of Lyft riders are women. On the other side, 30% of Lyft drivers are women.
Over 1 million people use BlaBlaCar every month. (2015)
Eatwith has already more than 500 active hosts in 160 cities and 30 countries
around the world. (2014)

In no more than 250 words, write down your next holiday’s plan using as many
existing sharing economy platforms as possible.
1. Identify your dream destination. Let your imagination fly.
2. Use at least four sharing platforms for your holidays.
3. Describe how you would be benefited from using these sharing alternatives.
Please, tell us how much money and time you plan to save using sharing solutions
instead of the traditional ones.

I will plan a one-week travel to Gijón (Asturias). I will use tools of sharing economy to
make a permissible travel:
1) Trip (Blablacar)
I will start the journey from my hometown, Málaga. I will use my own car. If I assumed
all the cost of the trip I would have to pay the order of 160€ for fuel.
Using Blablacar, and supposing two people is coming with me sharing costs (60 € per
person and per trip)… I would earn a total of 40 € per trip!
2) Trip (PiggyBee)
At PiggyBee people offer themselves to transport things for other people (for this kind
of trip, a typical price can be 10€ per trip). If I am able to contact two people per trip, it
would save a total of 40€.
3) Housing (Airbnb)
A typical hotel in Gijón cost is about 55€ per day. A medium accommodation cost
using Airbnb is about 21€ per day. It makes a total saving of 238€!
4) Meals (Compartoplato)
Compartoplato is a platform where people offer themselves to cook traditional meals of
different cities in their houses, sharing the costs of the meals. A typical meal using this
platform can have a price of about 5€. A cheap restaurant can offer a meal for 10€. It
makes a total saving of 105€ for the week.
5) Conclusions
On the next table I make and abstract of how, only using 4 tools of sharing economy, a
saving of 623€ can be done!
