Dear Sir or Madam,
I would like to apply for the position of lifeguard, which I saw advertised in a newspaper and it said that you are
looking for someone in August to assist your lifeguards.
My name is Jon, I am twenty three years old and I am from the north coast of Spain. Actually I study at North
University and I live in a dormitory close to the beach.
Since I was a child I would surf and got participate in some regional championships, for this reason I am always
training hard and doing water exercises.
Last summer I worked as lifeguard at the neighbourhood pool for two months and that was a great experience.
I feel I would be a suitable candidate for the job because I have experience at sea, I am young and athletic in
addition to being a responsible person.
I hope you will consider my application
Yours faithfully,
Jon

Dear Jane Black,
I am writing with reference to your advertised, which I saw in an international magazine.
I am interested in the course of English which you offer, but I have some questions I hope you could answer me.
Firstly, the course duration is two-weeks, but Could I do a three-week course? I am very interested and I would like
to join in one week more.
Secondly, the advertisement doesn’t show specific details about the prices, Could you send me the whole price of
the course?
Next, I would like to know more about the accommodation with host families, Are there more than one student per
family?
Finally, I would appreciate if you could send me more information about the social programme.

I look forward to hearing from you in the near future.
Yours sincerely,
Jon

Car accidents, traffic and pollution are some problems which cities has to fight against.
Some cities, for instance Amsterdam has decided to promote some rules to increase the use of bicycle on their
streets but Is really possible to get it? What have cities to do?
Firstly, traffic is the biggest problem that the massive use of cars on streets has. Nowadays, people normally have
their own car, and they use it to go to work, to shopping, to travel,… and this are the reason of the increased
number of cars. But it can be solved by the using of bicycle or public transport.
On the one hand, less traffic could mean less accidents, but on the other hand the accidents between bicycles and
cars could be more dangerous, for this reason is important to build special roads, parkings and structures for the
unique using of bicycle.
In spite of the benefits of the using of bicycle it has a big problem, the weather, when it is raining or snowing could
be dangerous and uncomfortable go to work by bicycle.
On balance, despite the strong arguments against, I think it’s important that the cities promote the using of bicycle
and build the structures which allow it.

Have you seen “Interstellar”? I have to tell you that, without doubt, it’s one of the most realistic films about the
future, Do you want to know how the future will be? You have to watch it.
The film is about the problem that the humans have to live in an injured earth, and how they have to go to another
planets to investigate the possibility to live in them.
What an incredibly realistic problem! I really like how the scientists calculate the travels, build the machines, and
speak about the theory of relativity. Some scientists has said that some things of the movie could be real.
I must admit that it could be a little fantastic in some aspects, for instance when they travel through a black hole,
but you can enjoy it a lot.
You really should watch “Interstellar” if you want to learn some things about space travels, black holes, and why
not? About our possible next home.

Have you ever played a friendly football match for a good reason? The closure of a regional company was the
reason why I played in this match, a lot of families who lived in the city depended on this company.
The friendly match consisted of two teams make up by people who worked in the company and students of the
city’s high schools. Citizens paid some optional money to advertise the problem and try to avoid the closure.
It was funny and I particularly enjoyed a lot, there were a lot of people in the stadium and It was a complete
success. Finally, we didn’t get avoid the closure, but we got that the city council provided the workers to economic
help. It was great!
In my opinion, It’s so important to support some charities although they don’t affect you directly and only with your
attendance you can support people who need to be helped.
