Volume 11, Issue 12 Library Hours December 2013

Building Project Update

The first three sections of the indoor renovation are finished although they are temporarily Monday-Wednesday housing staff and materials while the Reference Desk area, the old Teen area, and the 10 AM—8 PM Sumner History Room are being worked on. Thursday & Friday 10 AM—6 PM Saturday 10 AM—5 PM Sunday 1—5 PM One of the most notable permanent changes to the configuration of the library is that Adult fiction and non-fiction have switched locations. Mysteries are now on the outside walls of the bay window Area. Large print, religious fiction, Visit our website and paperbacks are located in the middle of www.wwpl.lib.in.us that area. Regular fiction starts in the same location that the non-fiction started in the main stacks. Science-Fiction/Fantasy is located on the walls outside of the public restrooms. Westfield Washington The Circulation Department, Audio/Visual Department, and the lobby are next on the list. Public Library Board of Trustees: The front entryway, which will house the new Circulation Department, and the Children’s Department will be completed last. Due to the renovation in the Children’s area, all programs, events, and regular story times will be on hiatus in January. Lego Robotics Team
On November 23, Mod Squad v2, the Lego Robotics Team sponsored by WWPL, competed in a qualifying tournament at the College of Technology at Purdue University in Columbus. The overall theme for the competition was Nature’s Fury, and they were tasked with using their skills to fix a problem. They chose lightning strikes as their topic and developed the ANTI-LIGHTNING VALVE as their solution. As part of their competition, they had to give a presentation to the judges, and for practice, they gave the presentation to the Westfield Fire Dept. prior to the competition. They will compete Mod Squad v2: again on December Noah Lee 14 at IU-PU-Fort Ryan Thompson Wayne. They were Zack Lee also interviewed by Owen Vogelgesang the local PBS crew Connor Dunn Jacob Bickel for a show that will air this spring. Their Adam Witzman trophy is on display Xavier Howard Zachary Howard in the Children’s Alex Lefevre Department. Adult Activities
Painting Class Talented artist Jan Roland teaches a class in Watercolor Painting and Techniques on Thursday, December 19 @ 10:15 AM and 1 PM. No previous art experience is required, and the class fee of $15 includes all materials. ESL Classes The library offers adult ESL (English as a Second Language) classes for beginners, as well as those who want to improve their English skills. Students pay for class materials. Classes will be scheduled after students submit their completed registration form and submit it to the Information/ Reference Services Desk.

From the Board of Trustees
The library board approved the renewal rates for staff dental, vision and life insurance. They will hopefully approve Phil Passen from Meyer Najem reported the renewal for the Health insurance at the December board meeting. Annual Nearly New Sale Friends Board:

We have fiction by best-selling authors, several genres of non-fiction (cookbooks, history, biographies, arts & crafts, sports, etc...), and stacks of tiny books that would make great stocking stuffers. And don’t forget that FOWL members get 10% off any purchases!

The Friends of the Westfield Library is an organization designed to promote and support the mission of the Westfield Washington Public Library. Through its fundraising efforts, primarily book sales held in the library and online, the group raises money used to fund library programs and to purchase items that are not in the library's operating budget.

Barnes & Noble Book Fair
We are hosting a holiday shopping spree to benefit WWPL at the Barnes & Noble in Carmel (on Greyhound Pass) beginning on Saturday December 14th.
