Arnulfo:
My plans and

goals are to study abroad at Parsons Paris next year hopefully. When I graduate from Parsons, I hope to get a job, designing Evening Gowns. I would like to get a job and work for Vera Wang, Oscar De La Renta, or Monique Lhuiller.
If I change my mind, I might want to look into doing menswear or ready to wear. For now, I’m just experimenting in my Concepts and Development class.

I am planning to launch my own s or even earlier r a e y e v i f hin t i w e lin ly start e t i n i f e d l l i w I , r Howeve out working for any company where I can learn the real fashion

o business. In 10 years? I want t m ee t at least one woman a day wh o is w earing my clothes.

Fashion is an expression and art form, but it can be made wearable!

Art: painting, architecture, sculpture, performance and everything around me. For my thesis collection, I was inspired by Ingres’ classic painting, The Bather of Valpincon, his painting depicting a woman’s curves and lines. It appealed to my sense of design and flow of clothes to compliment these curves and interpret them into fashion for the women of today who [have] a strength of purpose and like to be an individual - especially the urban woman. My designs capture her edginess and take what could be urban sophistication and make it feminine and

sexy.

samples book at the end of they are to be placed inside a binder. You have to hand in your construct those garments. Also, you do sewing samples each semester and create your own design and construct it. This semester we use actual fabric to with pockets. For the f inal project , you with a puff sleeve, a high waist dress with a butterf ly sleeve , and a shirting the second semester, the projects you do are a shift dress

these garments are to be constructed on Muslin only during the Fall Semester. Now, during Skirt, a Basic Sloper, and a Peter Pan collar on a short jacket. All of year, you learn to make Darts, a French Lining, 6 Gore given and they take three to four class days to construct those garments. In your sophomore You don’t learn how to make your own clothes at f irst. Basic garment projects are In your f irst year of Studio Methods you are taught the basic fundamentals of sewing.

With those classes, I just enjoy learning and being there. My favorite class has to be Fashion Drawing, Fashion History and Studio Methods each semester and you will carry it with you to Junior Year and so on.

Mari Hong:

From there, I started to gain interest in the construction of the dress and how it moves on the body.

The clothes appeal to the stylish woman who loves luxurious fabrics but also has the strong, edgy attitude to wear asymmetrical garments.

This collection is great for those who love to experiment and stylize their own outfits. Also, it is perfect for women who want to change their look throughout the day without having to go home and change clothes. Their attire can become a completely different outfit by simply adding a layer, tucking in a fold, or flipping a coat upside down.

My collection is ideal for those working in the arts and entertainment industry where style prevails over conservatism.

Carly

During Sophomore Year, it’s not competitive. In sophomore year, it’s only the Foundation Year of Fashion Design and everyone is getting to know each other in their Sections. It will get competitive during Junior and Senior Year. But it will be, mostly Senior Year because students are doing their Senior Thesis Collection.

I would say that to be in fashion design you have to want it and work for it. Fashion Design at Parsons is one of the toughest majors and the workload is very demanding. In order to succeed in your three years in Fashion Design, you have to manage your time well just like Foundation year and to make sure you don’t fall behind in all your classes.

It wasn’t so much a creative expression but more about the fact that I just wanted to make great clothes.

Well, I would definitely like to eventually have my own line and within 10 years I would hope that was the case. For now, unless some utterly amazing sponsor/mentor came along to produce my collection, I see myself working as designer for a really great fashion house until I can establish my own line

Illustration will always remain my first true love. It actually plays a big part in my own designs. I’m always inspired by what I can come up with on paper, rather than what I see in magazines or on television.

Based upon my own interpretation of Native American Art, I wanted to present intricate yet wearable pieces using nothing but synthetic materials - power nets, lycra and nylon blends which are normally used for swimwear, undergarments, etc.

My main focus was to treat these fabrics in order to create different surfaces and textures by ruching, pleating, and piping.
