WOULD YOUR CHAPTERBE MISSED?
With you through LIFE®

VFA/VAFIC
Today is October 9th, and with an October 1st deadline, we are very concerned about the number of conference registrations that have been received to date. PLEASE, EVERYONE confirm by email your plans to attend the VFA/VFIC conference on Saturday, October 19th. Please let us know any Woodmen members who can attend, or chapters that are sponsoring "delegates" to be in attendance. Hopefully there are a large number of registration forms already in the mail! We are really counting on you all to help us achieve our goal of 100 attendees at the banquet, as this is needed to help ensure the success of the conference. So far, there are very few registered; however, there is still time to rally and get those registrations in. I am optimistic that we will get them soon with your help. Now as for a Charity Golf Outing Update. IF the chapters and players that supported us last year attend again, as well as newcomers that have registered, we are poised for a great turn out!! I don't have confirmation from all the chapters that helped sponsor teams last year and that's where I can use your help. If you plan on playing and/or know for sure that your chapter is sponsoring a team, please confirm by email so that I can update the list. Additionally if you know of other individuals who could play, businesses who want to put in a team, or business that could be hole sponsors, please get that to me as well. The proceeds are certainly for a good cause and most everyone can get behind supporting our Veterans. Just in case you need it, I have attached the Registration packet which includes the golf information. The success of this conference and of the State Chapters of the VFA and VAFIC depend on YOU! Thank you for your support and a special thank you to those who have already responded.

From the desk of …
A couple of weekends ago, I was talking to Kelly about what our plans were going to be for the rare weekend off we had coming up. The first thought for both of us was “SLEEP IN SATURDAY”. However, if you have ever had a child, you already know that there is no such thing as “sleep in”. Saturday morning came and I awoke to my little man standing in the crib (see pic to the left)

Scott Koebel
today, the calendar portion is fully operational and ready for your officers and calendar entries. I have a goal this year! Would you be willing to help me with it? MY GOAL is to have 100% of our chapter calendars submitted to the home office for approval by Nov 14, 2013. So, I ask you again will you help me??? Enjoy Your Connection!

and then decided the first project was to lower the mattress in the crib! I wanted to thank those chapter members that have all their online reporting up to date. I also want to thank those chapters that have held their chapter planning session and are on the ball with getting them entered into myfraternalweb.org. As of

Change is Good Summer was a whirlwind, but it was invigorating to spend time with so many of you during the 2013 National Convention in Orlando. Now that things have settled down, I am excited about the new page we are turning in Woodmen of the World history. At the convention, delegates voted to change our terminology, and lodges will be referred to as chapters going forward. The change does NOT affect the amount paid for dues. Since our founding more than 120 years ago, Woodmen of the World has made necessary changes along the way as times have changed. Research indicates that lodge is an outdated term often associated with secrecy or exclusivity.

Message from Patrick L. Dees Executive Vice President Fraternal

As a Woodmen of the World member since I was very young, I grew up knowing everyone is welcome to participate in our fraternal activities. This change sends that message in clearer way to those who have yet to become familiar with or become involved in Woodmen of the World. It is also important that we help people understand, that even if they are unable to become directly involved in a chapter, they are helping their local communities just by being members. Your dues help make a difference right where you live. Sincerely and Fraternally, Pat Dees Executive Vice President, Fraternal

I wanted to take this time to introduce you to a new program I will be using to give you access to large files. It is called dropbox. The good news is you don't need to download it to your computer. You just have to cut and paste the links into your web browser and you will gain access to the files. I currently have three folders you can gain access to and read or download the files. They are as follows:

DROPBOX

- 5 Star Fraternal Challenge Link https://www.dropbox.com/sh/mqqnc0dx268js3l/OFCC8vwhzA - 2013 Community Connection Link https://www.dropbox.com/sh/8ajoaeoycmff1za/P_clCrQnTg - CARE Packages - https://www.dropbox.com/sh/g95lvxwj2ssn8d3/_IjnKL_S19 On the next page you will gain some more information about the CARE packages. Using the dropbox links will save you time not having to download large files from your email, and will ensure you always have the most up-to-date information. As always, call if you need help!

CARE PACKAGES

At Woodmen's National Convention they introduced some great tools for Chapters called CARE Packages. Community Activity Resource Examples

These are ideas and information about simple but effective programs and community outreach events that you can conduct. These packages truly walk you and your chapters through the projects step by step. Please remember that these are just a few examples that the Chapters can utilize. These are not the only projects that can be done - these are just more ideas. Remember your Chapters do not have to do all of these CARE Packages. As time rolls along there will be many more CARE Packages added to help assist you and your Chapters in maintaining it's relevancy. To gain access to all of the CARE Packages I have included a link to my dropbox account where you can download and print any or all that you wish. (Please note: these are very colorful files and will take up a lot of the ones your local Chapters would like to conduct.) Here is the link to the dropbox documents: I will be conducting 4 Video Conferences on these CARE Packages (we’ll also review the 5 star fraternal challenge program). I wanted you to all have these packages to review before your chapter planning meeting. Please remember these events are to help generate new leads which will help your local Field Representative, the chapter, the state and Woodmen of the World. Please remember that your Chapter calendar can be modified until October 28 on www.myfraternalweb.org, and still receive full points for the 5 star fraternal challenge. with you. I will be holding these video conferences on the following dates. Please have your local Chapters attend 1: October 8, 2013 @ 6:00 PM - 7:15 PM 2: October 14, 2013 @ 6:00 PM - 7:15 PM 3: October 22. 2013 @ 6:00 PM - 7:15 PM https://www.dropbox.com/sh/g95lvxwj2ssn8d3/_IjnKL_S19 ink. My suggestion is to download these files on a thumb drive and take them to a print center and print all or

Get your Money!!! Don’t forget the Matching Funds DEADLINE is October 28, 2013. Don’t leave any money at the Home Office - you earned it, so use it.  Have you looked to see how your 5 Star Fraternal Challenge points are standing up? Most of the chapters need an awards banquet or presentation of at least 5 awards in 2013. This is a mandatory requirement. So don't wait until December! Does your Chapter have a Facebook page? If not contact Sheri or me and we can help you get one. Remember every point you earn in the 5 Star Fraternal Challenge = $1 additional matching funds next year. Have you filled the 3 Chapter Web positions? If not please make sure that they are filled on this years calendar. These are important positions to your Chapters’ future success. State wide Calendar dates will be entered onto your Chapters Calendar from the State Office. This year, we will be holding Fraternal Summits. Please plan to attend.
