Upon arrival in Germany, you’ll check in to the luxurious 5-star Sofitel Munich Bayerpost to relax and unwind. This morning you’ll go down— literally—to Postojna and explore one of Europe’s major natural attractions, the Postojna Caves. You’ll journey by underground train and on foot to view a seemingly endless display of limestone formations and colorful pools. At 67,487 feet long and 377 feet “ deep, the Postojna is Europe’s most expansive cave. Thirty million visitors have marveled at its weird and wonderful stalactite and stalagmite formations. p. 332 Next, a short drive brings you to the Lipica Stud Farm, where you’ll visit the breeding home of the world-renowned Lipizzaner white stallions. ...the Habsburgs founded a stud farm “ in the 16th century to breed graceful Lipizzaner horses for the acclaimed Spanish Riding School in Vienna. Today is the annual Kravji Bal, or Cows’ Ball, a very unique and very Slovenian festival. Celebrating the winter homecoming of cattle after a summer in green pastures, the festival features a parade replete with milkmaids, cheesemakers, craftsmen and cows, of course. In Lake Bohinj, you’ll ascend Mount Vogel by cable car for stupendous scenic views of the region before stopping in Srednja Vas to visit the Herder museum, a 19th-century herder house with cheese presses, rennet vats and fascinating historical photography. This evening, share stories with Patricia herself at a cocktail reception at your hotel before dinner at Bled Castle. For nearly a millennium, Bled Castle has towered watchfully high atop the azure waters of Lake Bled and St. Mary’s Church.
