PACKERS 42, VIKINGS 10

NFL BRIEFS

Packers steamroll to victory

FROM WIRE REPORTS

Next spring’s draft
is set for Chicago

With Bridgewater out,
Vikings pose no threat
to NFC North rivals
GREEN BAY, Wis. — The
Green Bay Packers kept scoring
on a rainy Thursday night.
Even Julius Peppers found
his way across the goal line
through the mist against the
Minnesota Vikings.
Peppers returned an interception 49 yards for a touchdown, Aaron Rodgers threw
for three scores, and Green Bay
routed its NFC North rival 4210.
Eddie Lacy ran for a seasonhigh 105 yards and two touchdowns. Jordy Nelson hauled in
a 66-yard touchdown catch,
and the Packers held Minnesota scoreless for three quarters.
The Packers led 28-0 after
the first half played in a light
rain.
Peppers had the highlightreel play in the second quarter
after picking off a pass over the
middle from Colleyville Heritage product Christian Ponder,
who was hit by tackle Luther
Robinson as he released the
throw.
The 34-year-old Peppers
veered left across the field and
waited for blocks before chugging the final 10 yards along the
sideline to make it 21-0 with
7:06 left in the second quarter.
Peppers, the Packers’ prized
free-agent acquisition, stopped
for a second in the end zone before safety Morgan Burnett
came up and pointed at the
stands. Peppers took his first
Lambeau Leap.
Peppers became the first
player in NFL history with 100
sacks and 10 interceptions.
Things got worse for Ponder, who started at quarterback
with rookie Teddy Bridgewater
out with a sprained left ankle.

The Vikings’ Robert Blanton (right) loses his helmet and can’t stop the Packers’ Eddie
Lacy, who scores on a 10-yard run. Green Bay scored the game’s first 42 points.

NEW YORK — The 2015
NFL draft will be held in Chicago, the league announced
Thursday.
Hours after the Bears posted an announcement on their
Twitter account, the NFL confirmed the draft will move to
Chicago on April 30-May 2. It
will be held Auditorium Theatre of Roosevelt University.
The draft was held in Chicago in 1938, 1942-44, 1951, and
1962-64.
Moving the draft out of New
York, where it has been held for
decades, was likely once the
league began taking bids for
the event. Los Angeles and Chicago were the finalists for next
year’s event.
The Cowboys also had expressed interest in hosting the
event.

Seahawks QB:
‘I beat people up’
RENTON, Wash. — Seahawks quarterback Russell
Wilson has earned a new title
— senior editor for The Players’
Tribune, a just-launched website founded by retired baseball
superstar Derek Jeter.
And in his first article, published Thursday morning, Wilson made a revelation at odds
with his good-guy image.
“I used to beat people up,”
Wilson wrote. “Truthfully, I
used to beat people up a lot.”
Wilson added that he was
“saved by my faith when I was
14 years old, and was able to
start living for others instead of
just myself.”

Referees union says
league is inconsistent
NEW YORK — The union
representing NFL on-field officials criticized the league
Thursday for inconsistencies in

grading calls, including two
high-profile penalties from recent games.
In a release, the NFL Referees’ Association says the NFL
has “caused confusion for NFL
officials as to what the league
does and doesn’t want called.”
The union referred to penalties on Washington’s Chris
Baker for a hit on Eagles quarterback Nick Foles on Sept. 21,
and to Chiefs safety Husain
Abdullah last Monday night for
going to his knees to celebrate
an interception return for a
touchdown. Abdullah actually
had gone to his knees to pray —
an act exempted from celebration penalties.
The union says both calls
were graded as correct even after NFL executives announced
that they were incorrect. Baker
got a 15-yard penalty and was
ejected from the game at Philadelphia. Abdullah also received
a 15-yard penalty.

AROUND THE LEAGUE
Arizona: A visit to a spine
specialist confirmed what already had been diagnosed: Arizona quarterback Carson
Palmer has a “dead” nerve in
his throwing shoulder. Palmer
said no structural damage was
detected. All signs point to
Drew Stanton starting for unbeaten Arizona on Sunday at
Denver. The Cardinals visit the
Cowboys on Nov. 2.
New Orleans: The defense,
which ranked fourth in the
NFL last season, is 29th
through four games. It’s allowing 396 yards per game and has
just five sacks and one turnover.
NY Jets: WR Eric Decker
sat out practice with tightness
in his leg, leaving his status uncertain for the team’s game at
San Diego on Sunday.
Oakland: WR Rod Streater
(broken foot) will miss at least
the next eight weeks after being
placed on the injured reserve
list with a designation to return.
