This course can be a good lead-in to Introduction to Computers. Introduction to Computers How will you use your computer? This 4-session course builds on the Beginners course to help you see what computers can do for you.You will learn to organize your data files on your computer, compose letters, send and receive e-mail, use search engines and other on-line resources. You will not become an expert in any of these fields in 4 weeks, but you will find the possibilities and decide what areas you want to pursue. Important Note: Introduction to Computers is the foundation for the following courses: Word Processing Using OpenOffice.org Writer as a no-cost stand-in for MS Word, this 4-session course will teach you to create basic documents such as memos, faxes, letters, resumes and merge documents, as well as complex or multi-part documents, complete with bibliographies, reference tables and indexes. Those documents can then be saved in a variety of formats, including the OpenDocument format(ODF), Microsoft Word.doc format or HTML. You can also easily export your document to the Portable Document Format (PDF). Photoshop Elements Intermediate Class This 8-session course is for students who have completed the Photoshop Elements Beginners Class. This more advanced class involves greater hands-on practice while working at a much slower pace. Students will learn and practice using the tools in the Full Editor using a scrapbooking approach. Photoshop Elements version 7 will be used in class. Students must have any Photoshop Elements version 5 through 8. SUPPORTING THE COMMUNITY HOUSE GIFTS BY WILL
Each year The Community House benefits from the generosity of many people. For those of you considering a gift to The Community House, many gift options are available. The most popular are listed below: A carefully prepared will is the best way to ensure that your loved ones are provided for after death, and that your preferred charities are supported as you intend. Once completed, it can be revised and updated as your wishes and circumstances change. A simple addition to a will — “I give, devise and bequeath the (sum/percentage of/residue of my estate) to The Community House for such purposes as its board of trustees shall determine” can provide long-term benefits for The Community House and reduce federal estate taxes.

MATCHING GIFTS
Many employers will match the gifts of employees, retirees and members of the corporate board when their gifts are made to nonprofit organizations such as The Community House. The amount of your personal gift can be doubled, or even tripled, at no additional cost to you if your company has a matching gift program. Please contact your company’s community affairs or human resources department to see if a matching gift plan is available and if the The Community House is eligible.
GIFTS OF APPRECIATED SECURITIES OR REAL ESTATE
Stocks (including mutual funds), many bonds, other securities and property may make ideal contributions. When considering the sale of a particular holding, it is important to first check with a professional advisor to determine its suitability as a charitable gift.
GIFTS OF CASH
A gift of cash is the most common form of charitable giving. An outright gift to The Community House qualifies as a federal tax deduction for up to 50% of adjusted gross income. If that limit is exceeded in any one year, the excess deduction can be “carried over” into the next five years. A gift of cash is considered made on the date it is mailed or hand delivered. Gifts delivered or mailed by December 31 qualify for tax deductibility for the calendar year. Please make checks payable to: The Community House.
MEMORIAL AND TRIBUTE GIFTS
More and more, it is customary for friends and family members to express their sympathy through memorial giving as a meaningful way to offer consolation on the loss of a friend or relative. At other times, marking a special occasion or an achievement by honoring a person, couple or family through a tribute gift may be appreciated more than a material gift. The amount of your gift is kept confidential, and the friend or family member is informed of your thoughtfulness through an acknowledgement letter from The Community House.
GIFTS OF LIFE INSURANCE
A current life insurance policy can be changed or a new policy can be written to name The Community House as owner and beneficiary. A gift of life insurance can provide both a substantial charitable contribution and tax advantage.
If you would like gift planning assistance, please call Theresa Forthofer at (630) 323-7500, ext. 227.

Our Philosophy
We are committed to providing mental health services that simultaneously meet the highest standards of clinical practice while also being affordable to the whole community. We take seriously the responsibility of staffing the Counseling Department with highly-trained and talented psychotherapists who are dedicated to this mission.
How Counseling Helps
THE COMMUNITY HOUSE COUNSELING DEPARTMENT STAFF
People from every walk of life seek out counseling services and for a wide variety of reasons. One person might work with a psychotherapist in order to overcome feelings of anxiety, irritability, or depression. Another person might want to break problematic patterns of behavior or begin to heal past injuries that are getting in the way of happiness at home and at work. Couples come in to improve and deepen their relationships. Families find help understanding and overcoming the problems that frequently occur at specific points in the life cycle. Kids and adolescents often need assistance with peer problems, academic pressures, and self-esteem.

If you could help
low income children attend an after school program that would keep them safe and supervised while their parents are at work, would you?
If you could help sponsor nutritious after school snacks for those same low income kids, would you? If you could help mentor a young student dealing with a difficult home life, would you? Well, you can!
And your assistance is local, helping neighbors and families right here in DuPage County. The Community House provides an After School Program in unincorporated Willowbrook as the lead agency in the Willowbrook Corner Initiative. Although The Community House service area, located in DuPage County, is considered economically stable, several unincorporated and geographically isolated pockets of poverty exist within its borders. For twelve years, The Community House has focused on one such area, formerly, referred to as South Hinsdale. In July of 2001 the post office changed the neighborhood’s mailing address from Hinsdale to Willowbrook therefore; the name of the Initiative was changed to the Willowbrook Corner Initiative. This ethnically diverse neighborhood is not served by a park district or municipality. Many of the families residing in the area lack discretionary money, therefore, some of the children and youth are left unsupervised while their parents are working. In addition, the neighborhood is relatively transient. As a result, residents are often unaware of available resources or unable to participate due to lack of transportation. The Community House works closely with over 15 other agencies forming the Willowbrook Corner Coalition to identify and meet the needs of this underserved neighborhood.

Go Girls
Ages 10-13 Being a girl can be tons of fun! It can also offer many challenges as our girls get older. Go Girls! Is a group designed for girls to get together and talk, play games, and practice some of those subtle social cues that can be so difficult to learn. It is a chance for our girls to be themselves and just “hang out”. Our licensed Professional Counselor will work with the group on understanding and role playing social interactions, specifically having conversations. We will focus on initiating conversation, staying on topic, having reciprocal conversations, and reading body language. The girls will practice these skills in a safe environment and in the context of fun, age-appropriate activities. The goal of the group is for the girls to develop these skills and generalize them to their everyday life.
Sibling Group
Ages 3-5, 5-7 and 7-10 You have to grow up fast when you have a sibling with Autism, Sensory Processing, or Related Disorders. Siblings feel the extra expectations and responsibilities as well as the limited time for attention and validation that all children crave. As parents, we all do our best to make time for each of our children, but sometimes there are just not enough hours in a day. Here is a group where siblings can get an answer to the question, “What about me?” Siblings will meet others who walk in their shoes, have their feelings validated, and most importantly, have FUN! This group is facilitated by our Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor.
Tween/Teen Club
Ages 10-12 and 13-15 Being a kid is supposed to be a fun time. Yet, there are challenges as our kids learn all the subtle social rules necessary to have relationships. Their days are filled with opportunities to practice these skills; however, they struggle to understand them. Our Licensed Professional Counselor will work with the participants on understanding and practicing social interactions such as taking turns, making eye contact, emotional regulation, and conversational skills. Children will practice their skills in the context of fun, age-appropriate activities. Our goal is for these kids to develop and practice these skills and generalize them to their everyday life.
