A NNUA L R E P OR T
2013 - 2014
From the Executive Director
As we close out Fiscal Year 2014 and move into Fiscal Year
2015, I want to thank you – our funders, partners, and friends
– for your support this past year. As you review this report
and see just a sample of the work happening at Orphan
Helpers, remember that all of this was made possible by
YOU. Without your help and God’s guidance, there would be
no accomplishments, success stories, or positive financials to
highlight. We are grateful you have entrusted Orphan Helpers
as the conduit for making sure your earthly blessings have
eternal impact.

Because of your support and commitment, Orphan Helpers is well-
positioned to grow to even greater heights and transform even
more young lives this coming year. Our long history of working
in public orphanages and juvenile
detention centers where few others
venture gives us favor to work in foreign
lands. Our strong team of passionate
teachers who daily serve “the least of
these” provides us an avenue to share
the Good News. Our commitment and
desire to work alongside other churches
and organizations helps us form a solid
network of partners.

Now is the time to build on this strong
foundation for broader impact. In the
year ahead, my priorities as Executive
Director are to:
The mission of Orphan Helpers is as
important today as ever. More and more
children are neglected, abandoned, locked
up, and forgotten. We constantly see new
opportunities to provide them hope for
tomorrow. With your help, we can.
Gratefully,
Greg Harris
Innovate our programs and
services to make sure they’re
having the greatest impact
in serving children who’ve
been forgotten or lost their
way. We will seek continuous
improvement in all we do to
give these precious lives a
hope and a future.
Obsess over finding opportunities for young people. While serving the
children and teens inside the centers is essential, our work cannot end
there. We will dedicate ourselves to locating homes that nurture, schools
that educate, clinics that heal, businesses that employ, Christians that
mentor, and churches that serve.
Empower churches, non-profits, and others to participate in global
orphan care. We recently have launched new initiatives to engage
more groups and individuals. We will continue to pursue partners to
journey with us in changing lives.
Focus intensely on measuring results. We do it all out of love for our
Lord and the glory of God. At the same time, we want to make sure
we’re bearing fruit. That’s why we will monitor results to make sure
we’re as effective as possible.

Ministry Work
Our staff conducts devotionals, prayer meetings or Bible studies every
morning. Christian discipleship is at the heart of the Orphan Helpers ministry.
Orphan Helpers sends in-country, Christian staff into the orphanages and
detention centers each day to be the hands and feet of Christ. They serve as
teachers, counselors, mentors, and caregivers to the children.
Life skills are critical for our children to attain self-supported independence.
Orphan Helpers provides instruction and certification in computer,
cosmetology, ceramics, sewing, jewelry making, and other skill sets.
Orphan Helpers’ staff provides group and individual counseling to assist
in the recovery from sexual, physical, and emotional neglect and abuse.
Most of the children are either illiterate or very poorly educated. Orphan
Helpers teaches reading, writing, and math in some of the centers.

“My mom belonged to a gang and was always surrounded by bad
people. So I ran away and ended up at CIPI with my younger brother.
I struggled with drugs and aggression, and even practiced in a cult.
Johana (Orphan Helpers teacher) introduced me to Jesus Christ, and I
now feel like a new creation. My life changed from cursed to blessed.”
Pamela Díaz, 12 years old - CIPI, San Salvador, El Salvador
Disclaimer: The names and pictures
of the children and youth have been
changed for their protection and in
accordance with country law.
At a young age, Gabriela and her sister
were abandoned when their mom
emigrated to the US. She practically
grew up on the streets lacking love and
attention from any family. Gabriela joined
the MS-13 gang and was sentenced
to nine years at CISF for extortion.
She joined the Orphan Helpers filigree
workshop taught by Alicia. “I always come
to the workshop to seek affection, peace,
and counsel from Alicia.” She did not
know anything about God, but now she
finds peace and security at the workshop
because she knows God is near.

“I am in the first grade. I like to play baseball and marbles with my
brothers. My dad used to beat me a lot and tie me to the bedpost
until evening. Many times, he tied me up and left me. One night, the
police found out. They took my parents to prison and brought me to
Nueva Esperanza. Every day, I get to sing and praise God and learn
about Him from sisters Maria Felix, Deisy, and Sandra.”

“My name is Santos. I used to
love to get high. I would sneak
out and buy drugs while my
mom was asleep. I was caught
and admitted to CISNA. I
attended Bible class taught
by Sister Edelmira and learned
about the prodigal son. I now
know that I am forgiven by God
for all my bad behavior and
addiction. When I return home,
I’m going to go back to school,
and treat my mom better. I am
so thankful for all of Edelmira’s
love and help.”

Made Possible
CISF girls’ detention center and Sendero de Libertad
boys’ detention center in El Salvador received 2 new
computer labs made possible through the Rotary clubs
partnership and Rotary Foundation grant.
The largest and most beautiful Orphan Helpers library was
established at Sendero de Libertad detention center in
El Salvador thanks to Kiwanis’ partnership and grant funds.
New 15 passenger van
purchased with Rotary Grant
to transport local Central
American volunteers and
staff to the centers in San
Pedro Sula, Honduras.
Orphan Helpers staff in El Salvador were
honored by ISNA (Salvadoran Department
of Child & Family Services) at ISNA’ s
annual Exhibition of Achievements.
Over half of Orphan Helpers in-country teachers and staff are participating
in Leadership Training International’s program. Five in El Salvador have already
been certified! This program is training and equipping them to be stronger
Christian leaders, and as a result, better serve the children in their care.

“I truly believe that these young women have purpose, and the Lord definitely
took the time to demonstrate His love for them. We were on a mission to
show the love of Christ, and I believe the Lord gave us the opportunity to show
them how to love and to teach them the power of forgiveness. Even if one girl
received inner healing, we accomplished what we were sent out to do.”
“One eye opener I had not expected was the realization of how graciously and
sacrificially the Orphan Helpers workers serve and love those to whom they
minister. They inspire me to truly serve these precious children with my whole heart.”
“We saw God moving time and time again. The team that I served with was small but
sweet. We were there to be beacons of the love of God, to add fuel to the flames of the
ongoing efforts, and we were not disappointed in seeing Love (1 John 4:16) at work.”
