Branch of ASCE. Our past president, Amy Bird, did an excellent job in
growing many initiatives including the popsicle bridge contest and our
golf tournament as well as introducing the first Engineer's Night Out
which was a resounding success. We thank you for your service and
leadership over the past year.
Exciting Upcoming Events and PDH Opportunities!

September Branch Meeting - Water Purification
Tablets Invented for Developing World by Nonprofit
Organization PureMadi

Location: Westwood Club, 6200 West Club Lane, Richmond, VA 23226
When: Thursday September 26, 2013 @ 12:00 PM
Cost: $25
PDH: 1 credit
Menu: A buffet style lunch will be served

For ASCE's September Branch meeting, join us for a discussion with Jim
Smith, a University of Virginia civil and environmental engineer and
professor who co-leads a project which has developed a simple ceramic
water purficiation tablet. An article was written in UVAToday which
details this innovative product which can be read here. From the
article:

"Called MadiDrop, the tablet - developed and extensively tested at U.
Va. - is a small ceramic disk impregnated with silver or copper
nanoparticles. It can repeatedly disenfect water for up to six months
simply by resting in a vessel where water is poured. It is being
developed for use in communities in South Africa that have little to no
access to clean water."

Got an Opinion? We'd Love to Hear from You!
