2014 Fall Program of Events
Our Fall 2014 program includes Italian classes, lectures and Italian themed films. All events are held at the
I.C.F. building at 468 Wheat Rd. in Vineland, NJ (behind Susquehanna Bank).

Italian the Language of Love
We are offering 2 Italian language series, Basic Italian I and Basic Italian II. The fee is
$50.00 for each course or free to members. The ICF annual membership is $50.00,
$45.00 for seniors, $75.00 for a family membership (includes children under 18) and
$20.00 for students.
Basic Italian I - Instructor: Vincent Marolda
Classes will be held every Tuesday, from 7:00 to 8:00 pm, for eight consecutive weeks, starting
September 30, 2014.
This class will help you learn and practice speaking basic Italian. This level 1 course assumes little or no
experience with the language, or perhaps time has passed since you used it. Vocabulary and grammar, as
well as listening and speaking skills, are incorporated into the course.
Basic Italian II – Instructor John Finizio
Classes will be held every Monday, from 7:00 to 8:00 pm, for eight consecutive weeks, starting
September 29, 2014.
This class will focus on basic Italian vocabulary, sentence structure and grammar. Each class will focus on
the four domains of language acquisition: listening, reading, writing and speaking. Various cultural topics
will also be discussed during the course which is open to all. It will be more valuable to past students of
Basic Italian I.

Educational Presentations
On the Thursdays listed below, ICF will have meetings and educational presentations. The events start at
7:00 pm, are free of charge and will be held in our building at 468 Wheat Rd., Vineland, NJ.

September 4, 2014: Membership Meeting with Pizza and Music by Lina Louie
September 18, 2014: Rome, Part I, presentation by Dr. Frank DeMaio
Rome’s history spans more than two and a half thousand years, since its founding in 735 BC. One of the
oldest cities in Europe and one of the most visited in the world, its historic center is listed by UNESCO
as a World Heritage Site.
September 25, 2014: Rome, Part II, presentation by Dr. Frank DeMaio
October 2, 2014: Membership Meeting with presentation from financial advisor Henry E. Kramarski
October 23, 2014: Palace Depression, presentation by author and historian Patricia Martinelli
The Palace Depression was a building made of junk located in Vineland, NJ, built by the eccentric George
Daynor. Known as “The Strangest House in the World,” it was a testament of willpower against the
effects of the Great Depression.
October 30, 2014: Five Smart Investing Strategies, presentation by Susquehanna Bank
Financial Consultant Rod McCallum will be on hand to provide an introduction to investments.

November 6, 2014: Membership Meeting - Premier Orthopedics will present two new associates:
Dr. Mariani, a pain management specialist, and Dr. Wu, an orthopedic surgeon. The evening will be
concluded with a dinner hosted by Premier Orthopedics.
November 20, 2014: Come Ernest Home seekers - Ethnic Settlements in the Pines,
presentation by Mark Demitroff. Tracts of land became accessible for development when railroads
crisscrossed the Pine Barrens in the 19th Century. With promises of prosperity and independence,
immigrants settled upon modest plots. This presentation commemorates German, Italian and Jewish
settlers who sought security while overcoming social intolerance.
December 4, 2014: Membership Meeting with a Pot Luck dinner.

Films
On the Thursdays listed below, ICF will show Italian themed films. The events start at 7:00 pm, are free
of charge and will be held in our building at 468 Wheat Rd., Vineland, NJ.
September 11, 2014: Three Coins in the Fountain
Three Coins in the Fountain is a 1954 American romantic comedy
film directed by Jean Negulesco, starring Clifton Webb, Dorothy
McGuire, Jean Peters, Louis Jourdan, Rossano Brazzi and Maggie
McNamara. Written by John Patrick, the film is about three American women working in Rome who dream of finding romance in the
Eternal City. Academy Award for Best Cinematography.

October 9, 2014: Miracle at St. Anna (part I)
Miracle at St. Anna, made in 2009, is based on a true story
of four African American soldiers stationed in German
occupied Italy during World War II. Separated from their
unit and trapped behind Nazi lines, ranking officer Aubrey
Stamps (Derek Luke), hot headed Bishop Cummings
(Michael Ealy), radioman Hector Negron (Laz Alonso) and
gentile giant Sam Train (Omar Benson Miller) survive a
shocking massacre, rescuing a young Italian boy in the
process. Rated R. 160 minutes.
October 16, 2014: Miracle at St. Anna (part II)

November 13, 2014: To Rome with Love
To Rome with Love is a 2012 magical realist comedy film
written by and starring Woody Allen in his first acting
appearance since 2006. The film is set in Rome, Italy. It
was released in Italian theaters on April 13, 2012 and
opened in Los Angeles and New York City on June 22,
2012. Rated R. I hr. 52 min.

December 11, 2014: Roman Holiday
Roman Holiday is a 1953 romantic comedy directed and produced by
William Wyler. It stars Gregory Peck as a reporter and Audrey
Hepburn as a royal princess out to see Rome on her own. Hepburn
won an Academy Award for Best Actress for her performance; the
screenplay and costume design also won. 1 hr. 58 min.
