From the Desk of Rep. Dovilla x x x x From the Desk of Rep. Dovilla At the Statehouse Around the 7th Upcoming Events Dear 7th District Resident: Fall has officially arrived, and with the change of seasons the Ohio House of Representatives is wrapping up its summer schedule of field hearings. Over the past few months, several House standing committees and study committees have been focused on a variety of issues ranging from Medicaid reform to higher education. The House Policy and Legislative Oversight Committee, which I am honored to chair, has been among those standing committees making productive use of the summer months while the full House is not holding voting sessions. For our third hearing, we most recently traveled to northwest Ohio to examine the positive impact of tourism on our state’s economy, and next week we will be coming to the 7th House District for an oversight hearing on veterans services. There is more information on these meetings in our “At the Statehouse” section. My district schedule continues to be busy as well, featuring meetings related to economic development, public education, and transportation, among other issues. These matters are detailed in the “Around the 7th” segment below. In addition, starting this Saturday I will start my fall round of district office hours at the Berea public library. More information is in our “Upcoming Events” calendar. It is an honor to continue serving you in the Ohio House of Representatives. If I may ever be of assistance to you or your family, please contact my office at 6144664895 or

Sincerely, State Representative Mike Dovilla To unsubscribe please reply to this newsletter with the response, “Unsubscribe.” At the Statehouse Over the summer, we have been conducting field hearings of the House Policy and Legislative Oversight Committee, which I serve as

chairman. In our last two newsletters, I provided updates on our first two hearings in Cincinnati on HCR 27 related to the Internal Revenue Service and in St. Clairsville on maintaining affordable, reliable electricity for Ohioans. On September 10, the committee traveled to Sandusky for our third summer hearing. This meeting focused on the small businesses in our state that rely on travel and tourism, Ohio’s fourth largest industry, and the changes being implemented by the Development Services Agency (DSA) and TourismOhio as a result of Senate Bill 314 from the 129th General Assembly. The committee heard from 13 witnesses, including DSA Director David Goodman and a variety of tourism representatives from restaurants, hotels, amusement parks, wineries, and convention and visitor bureaus. Members used this opportunity to learn more about actions we can take to strengthen an industry that supports over 443,000 jobs and generates over $43.3 billion for our state’s economy. Our fourth and final field hearing will come to the 7th House District on September 26, when the committee will convene at Baldwin Wallace University to conduct oversight on changes being implemented by the Department of Veterans Services and as a result of House Bill 490 from the 129th General Assembly and the support services offered to veterans by myriad organizations throughout the state. As a U.S. Navy veteran and BW graduate, I am particularly gratified that my alma mater, which has been recognized as a Yellow Ribbon institution for its robust program to attract returning veterans, has offered to host our committee for this hearing. Around the 7th In addition to preparing for our summer hearings and continuing to work on legislative and oversight matters at the Statehouse and around Ohio, over the past few weeks, I participated in the following activities in our district: On September 9, I participated in a special meeting of the Ohio Turnpike and Infrastructure Commission, where the commission approved ten projects (and rejected two such proposals) presented by the Ohio Department of Transportation for funding with newly issued revenue bonds. All approved projects have a clear nexus to the Ohio Turnpike; the two Cuyahoga County projects approved in this first tranche will advance the timeline for constructing the second span of the Innerbelt Bridge and the first portion of the Opportunity Corridor. On September 11, I met with Dr. Jim Lloyd, the new superintendent of the Olmsted Falls City School District, to discuss district operations, part of an ongoing series of meetings I hold with leadership in our House district’s four school districts. On September 12, I attended a hearing of the House Prescription
Drug Addiction and Healthcare Reform Study Committee, which has been holding summer field hearings around the state to discuss this important element of Medicaid reform. The study committee met at Lutheran Hospital, a Cleveland Clinic affiliate in Ohio City. On September 18, I met with Greg Gurka, the new superintendent of the North Royalton City School District, and Rich McIntosh, the district’s treasurer, to discuss operational and financial issues. On September 19, I met with representatives of Olmsted Township to discuss progress being made on the Joint Economic Development District. On September 20, I met with Dr. Richard Pinkerton, a retired university professor and Strongsville constituent, to discuss potential reforms to reduce the cost of higher education. On September 23, I presented a House Resolution to Wallover Oil in Strongsville in celebration of its 150th anniversary. On September 23, I visited with residents and staff of Blossom Hill, an agency assisting individuals with disabilities in North Royalton.
