Opportunities to Grow Spiritually For Adults
“Come As You Are” As the body of Christ, we gather together to pray, to worship, to serve, and to encourage one another. Starting today at 11 a.m. in the Bridal Lounge, you will have the opportunity to “come as you are,” to be encouraged and to inspire others as you share your own stories of faith. Grab a cup of coffee and head over to the Bridal Lounge where Dave and Cathy Saunders will lead you to discuss that week’s sermon, share meaningful scriptures, and recount life’s amazing “God moments.” This group will also meet at September 19, and 26. Feel free to attend any or all of the sessions. Come as you are, and be encouraged by one another! For more information on this new discipleship opportunity, please contact Pastor LaBar by phone at 421-3280,ext. 12 or email [email protected]. Mom's Bible Study- Begins Thursday, September 16! We are excited to offer a new ministry opportunity, created especially for moms, grandmothers, and caregivers who want to grow in their own faith while their children are in school! This study will begin on September 16 and will take place on Thursday mornings from 9 to 10:15 a.m. in the Bridal Lounge. Coffee will be available at 8:45 a.m. The study will be led by our associate pastor, Candy LaBar. Our first study topic will be on the "Not-So-Well-Known Women of the Bible." What can we learn from these biblical women? As we explore their stories, what can they teach us about our relationships with God? Join us each week for coffee, conversation, and scripture study! If this is your first time worshiping with us, we welcome you. As a church we are committed to Love Jesus Christ and to Share His Love. We offer three services: 8:30 and 11 a.m. are traditional, and 9:45 a.m. is contemporary. ~ Our Welcome Center is located in Oberholtzer Hall, the room next to the sanctuary. Brochures on all our ministries are available there. ~ Our Holy Grounds Café is a place for light refreshments and coffee from 8:30 a.m. - 12:15 p.m. each Sunday in our Fellowship Hall. The café provides worshipers with an informal opportunity for fellowship. ~ Our Infant and Toddler Nurseries are available every Sunday from 8 a.m. - 12:30 p.m. They are located on the lower level of the church and are staffed with our full-time, professional attendants and parent volunteers. ~ Children’s Church for ages four through third grade is offered at the 11 a.m. service and is guided by a parent volunteer. Children will be dismissed after the Children’s Message. Please pick up your children in the lower level of the church following worship.
ESUMC Book Club: We will be hosting two book discussion formats. 1. Our on-site book discussion group will take place on Sunday, September 19, at 6:30 p.m. During this one-time session, we will discuss the entire book, so begin reading right away! 2. Our online book discussion blog will begin during the last week of September, and will be accessible through our church website, www.esumc.net.

Fellowship Hall In Use - Until the renovations are made to our current Youth Room, our NA & AA groups will be meeting in the Fellowship Hall Mon. - Sat. from 11:30 a.m. - 1:30 p.m., Wed. from 5-8 p.m., Thurs. & Sat. from 7:30 - 9 p.m. Please check with the church office before using or entering the Fellowship Hall during these times. Need a Door? Several of the old wooden/stained glass doors are in Oberholtzer Hall today. If you would be interested in one, please call the church office. Donations received will be applied to renovation project. Older Kids (55+ aged group) is going to Camp LaDore, a Salvation Army owned camp Wednesday, September 15 from 9 a.m. - 4 p.m. The camp offers a multitude of services, activities and amenities, including bike riding, swimming in a heated pool, walking trails, etc. Cost is $10 per person and includes lunch. A donation for fuel will be taken. For transportation planning, please RSVP to Jean Snyder at 421-0485. Mark your Calendar - IAM the movie will be shown in our Fellowship Hall Sunday, October 10 at 7 p.m. This movie sends an important message – 3500 years ago, God gave us the Ten Commandments. Over time, most were forgotten. This is an outreach event bring your friends. Saturday Night Fellowship is September 18 at 6 p.m. in Fellowship Hall. The theme is Fall Flavors. Bring a dish to share and a friend. Merry Marthas & Misters (A Cooking Fellowship) will meet Friday, September 24 at 6:30 p.m. in Fellowship Hall. Faith will share some of the new foods she experienced while in England and social awareness opportunities to participate in. Adult Co-ed Recreational Basketball meets every Monday at 8 p.m. in the Fellowship Hall. For more information call John at 426-7574. Opportunities to Celebrate God through Worship
Great Appreciation is given to Darla Piancone for her lovely vocal gift at 8:30 a.m. today. The Chancel Choir is eager to resume ministry today in the 11 a.m. service. Choirs To Resume for the Fall-Christmas Season. Chancel Choir for adults and teens on Thursdays from September 9 at 7:30-9 p.m. in Choir Room. All Bell Choirs on Tuesdays from September 14. Chime Choir at 5-5:30 p.m., Youth at 5:30-6:15 p.m and Adults at 6:30- 7:30 p.m. These choirs support worship at 8:30 and 11 a.m. on a rotating schedule monthly. New members are welcome! Especially needed are 1 or 2 strong persons to handle the largest bells. Also, a high soprano would be a great encouragement to the Chancel Choir. Fanfares, Fifes, and Faith" Sunday September 26, 3 p.m. - Concert by Gordon Turk, virtuoso Organist at the Great Auditorium in Ocean Grove, NJ, of the Methodist Camp Meeting Association and site since 1870. "Fanfares" are short, bright introductory flourishes, "Fifes" means the flute-like sounds of music for pipes, and "Faith" refers to the hymns of our spiritual heritage. Dr. Turk, whose father was a United Methodist pastor, has a deep love for church music. Help is needed in these areas: • Reception - Donated items, setup, kitchen, and cleanup • Publicity - Fliers are available in Fellowship Hall today for you to take, post, and share. • Details are also available for anyone wishing to be listed in the program as a "Friend" of the Organ Series. Welcoming - Come, enjoy, and then "walk across the room" in Christian welcome for the community visitors who usually attend these concerts. And the God of peace will be with you. - Phillippians 4:9 The team of people who direct our Stephen Ministers are Stephen Ministry leaders who have received leader training directly from the faculty of the Stephen Ministry organization headquartered in St. Louis, Missouri. Our leaders are Peggy Strack, Jenni Poole, Linda Johnson, Kathy Ravago, and Randy Ravago. Stephen Ministry leaders recruit, select, and train members of our congregation to become Stephen Ministers. Stephen Ministers and leaders meet twice monthly for continuing education and small group supervision. The purpose of small group supervision is to guide Stephen Ministers and support one another in their caring relationships; in essence, giving care to the care givers. Please contact Peggy Strack at the church office, 421-3280, if you have any questions about Stephen Ministry. Homebound and Care Facility church members are always happy to be remembered by the church family. Free Blood Pressure Screening Today at the End of Summer Celebration from 12:30-3 p.m. Stop by to have your blood pressure checked, speak with a nurse, and pick up literature from the American Heart Association. Altar Flowers are regularly given to members who are homebound, in care facilities, or in the hospital. 12 ounce plastic coffee containers or juice cans make good containers for delivering them. Please save your empty coffee or juice cans and give them to Peggy in the church office. Helping Children & Teens Cope with Grief, a FREE conference with internationally known author, educator, and grief counselor Dr. Alan D. The Davis Class will have their monthly meeting at the home of Margaret Dagger (3243 Wigwam Park Road) Monday, September 27 at 1 p.m. Parking is limited, please plan on car-pooling. Extraordinary Women Saturday, October 2 is about embracing the powerful peace that Christ has waiting for you. Come be uplifted and renewed by inspiring messages and genuine worship with: Julie Clinton, Angela Thomas, Chondra Pierce, Karen Kingsbury, Sheri Rose Shepherd and NewSong. United Methodist Women Muffins and Missions is Sunday, September 26 from 9:45 - 10:45 a.m. in Fellowship Hall. All women are invited to learn about the United Methodist reading program. This program includes contemporary books in four categories relating to the purpose of the United Methodist Women — Spiritual Growth, Education for Mission, Nurturing for Community, and Social Action.

Youth Ministry - Entering 7th - 12th Grades
Combined Jr. & Sr. High Sunday School will be held at 11 a.m. today in the Youth Room. Sunday Night Program will be held this Sunday from 7 - 8:30 p.m. There will be a mix of games, message, and discussion. Youth Praise Band: With the new Youth Room nearing completion, we are really looking to ramp up the youth praise band. If any student is interested in participating as a singer or musician, please contact Scott Kuhnle ASAP at [email protected]. Practices will start in September. Two New Opportunities this Fall: • Hiking Club led by Bob Rosenberger for all ages. The youth are invited to participate the third Sunday of every month following Sunday School. We will meet at the church and use the church vans to get to the trails. The first hike is Sunday, September 19 and we will leave at 12:30 p.m. and return at 4 p.m. Hiking difficulty will be between easy and moderate. • Service Saturdays: Anyone who went on a mission trip this summer (or has EVER been involved with missions) understands the value of serving others and how you as a participant can be blessed beyond any expectations. Starting Saturday, October 2, we will be offering "Service Saturdays" and continue the first Saturday of every month. Come serve our community through local missions projects. For now, please put Saturday, October 2 on your calendar. More details will follow. In order to make this program work, we will need several adult volunteers---if interested in volunteering, please let Scott know.
Children’s Ministry Nursery - Sixth Grade
Children's Choir begins on September 19 at 9 a.m. in the Choir Room for children in grades K-5th grades. Parents are requested to sign up as a "choir helper" several Sundays throughout the year, so please bring your calendars. After-School Programs for elementary students will begin with Lord's Army (4th/5th/6th graders) Tuesday, September 21. Backyard Buddies (2nd/3rd graders) starts Tuesday, September 28. Each group meets every other Tuesday throughout the school year. Group size is limited, please sign up now. Transportation is available from JM Hill, Stroudsburg Intermediate Elementary School, and Stroudsburg Middle School. ESE and JTL could be included with parents volunteers. Call Sue Randall for more information. Foundations Preschool Update! Our brand new preschool, Foundations has started. Preschool is held Tuesdays and Thursdays from 8:30-11:30 a.m. Please be aware that the church building will be locked during these hours.

Fanfares, Fifes, and Faith" Sunday September 26, 3 p.m. - Concert by Gordon Turk, virtuoso Organist at the Great Auditorium in Ocean Grove, NJ, of the Methodist Camp Meeting Association and site since 1870. "Fanfares" are short, bright introductory flourishes, "Fifes" means the flute-like sounds of music for pipes, and "Faith" refers to the hymns of our spiritual heritage. Dr. Turk, whose father was a United Methodist pastor, has a deep love for church music. And the God of peace will be with you. - Phillippians 4:9 The team of people who direct our Stephen Ministers are Stephen Ministry leaders who have received leader training directly from the faculty of the Stephen Ministry organization headquartered in St. Louis, Missouri. Our leaders are Peggy Strack, Jenni Poole, Linda Johnson, Kathy Ravago, and Randy Ravago. Stephen Ministry leaders recruit, select, and train members of our congregation to become Stephen Ministers. Stephen Ministers and leaders meet twice monthly for continuing education and small group supervision. The purpose of small group supervision is to guide Stephen Ministers and support one another in their caring relationships; in essence, giving care to the care givers. Youth Ministry - Entering 7th - 12th Grades
Combined Jr. & Sr. High Sunday School will be held at 11 a.m. today in the Youth Room. Sunday Night Program will be held this Sunday from 7 - 8:30 p.m. There will be a mix of games, message, and discussion. Youth Praise Band: With the new Youth Room nearing completion, we are really looking to ramp up the youth praise band. If any student is interested in participating as a singer or musician, please contact Scott Kuhnle ASAP at [email protected]. Practices will start in September. Two New Opportunities this Fall: • Hiking Club led by Bob Rosenberger for all ages. The youth are invited to participate the third Sunday of every month following Sunday School. We will meet at the church and use the church vans to get to the trails. The first hike is Sunday, September 19 and we will leave at 12:30 p.m. and return at 4 p.m. Hiking difficulty will be between easy and moderate. • Service Saturdays: Anyone who went on a mission trip this summer (or has EVER been involved with missions) understands the value of serving others and how you as a participant can be blessed beyond any expectations. Starting Saturday, October 2, we will be offering "Service Saturdays" and continue the first Saturday of every month. Come serve our community through local missions projects. For now, please put Saturday, October 2 on your calendar. More details will follow. In order to make this program work, we will need several adult volunteers---if interested in volunteering, please let Scott know.
Children’s Ministry Nursery - Sixth Grade
Children's Choir begins on September 19 at 9 a.m. in the Choir Room for children in grades K-5th grades. Parents are requested to sign up as a "choir helper" several Sundays throughout the year, so please bring your calendars. After-School Programs for elementary students will begin with Lord's Army (4th/5th/6th graders) Tuesday, September 21. Backyard Buddies (2nd/3rd graders) starts Tuesday, September 28. Each group meets every other Tuesday throughout the school year. Group size is limited, please sign up now. Transportation is available from JM Hill, Stroudsburg Intermediate Elementary School, and Stroudsburg Middle School. ESE and JTL could be included with parents volunteers. Call Sue Randall for more information. Foundations Preschool Update! Our brand new preschool, Foundations has started. Preschool is held Tuesdays and Thursdays from 8:30-11:30 a.m. Please be aware that the church building will be locked during these hours.
