Bringing geographically dispersed workforce together in virtual environments to collaborate on tasks
is a challenge addressed by the productivity and collaboration features of Exchange Server 2007.
The exchange server deployed in the Unified Messaging role enables PBX integration (regular and
VoP services! to allow voicemail and fax messages delivered to exchange mailboxes. t also provides
V" (interactive voice response! dial#in capabilities directly to the exchange server.
$o here%s a step#by#step guide on how to integrate the unified messaging server into your phone
system. But please note& this how#to guide only describes the server configuration tasks ' not the
hardware and wiring re(uirements.
The Dial Plan
The dial plan is the central component of the )* system as it represents the extension groups within
the phone system and is a logical representation of the PBX dial plan. +ou can configure a single dial
plan or have multiple dial plans that represent different extension groups.
)sers that belong to the same dial plan will each have a uni(ue extension that identifies their phone.
,nd users within the extension group will be able to call each other using only the target users
extension.
The dial plan also allows you to configure uni(ue sets of features and policies for each extension
group. -ote that for each dial plan created. a default )* mailbox policy will be created.
+ou can create a new dial plan using the exchange management console&
/. $elect 0rgani1ation 2onfiguration
3. $elect )nified *essaging
4. )nder actions select create new )* plan
5. 6ive the plan a uni(ue name
7. ,ssign the number of digits for the extension (usually 4!
8. 2lick finish
+ou can create a new dial plan using the exchange management shell&
new-UMDialPlan -Name:'assignnameDilaPlan'
-NumberOfDigitsInExtension:'3'
-Accessele!"oneNumbers '#$3'

The IP $ate%a"
The organi1ation%s PBX must interface digitally to the messaging network. This is done via the VoP
gateway or an P#Private Branch eXchange (PBX!. that is enabled for $ession nitiation Protocol ($P!.
The gateway must be configured for each 9ial Plan using either the management console or the shell.
+ou can create a new )* P 6ateway using the management console&
/. $elect the 0rgani1ation 2onfiguration
3. $elect )nified *essaging
4. $elect the )* P 6ateway tab
5. 2lick -ew )* P 6ateway
7. :nter a uni(ue )* P 6ateway -ame
8. :nter either the P address of the gateway or a fully (ualified domain name
;. 2lick finish
+ou can also create a new )* P 6ateway using the exchange management shell&
new-UMIP%atewa& -Name:'si!'(er)er'
-A**ress:'si!'+lit"net+local'
-UMDialPlan:'3DigitDialPlan'
f you use a <=9-. you must add the appropriate records to the 9-$ 1one. ,lso. if the gateway will
be associated with a dial plan that is operating in secure mode. you must use a <=9- and not an P
address. t is recommended that you use a <=9- rather than an P address. as P addresses tend to
break functionality.
The UM Mail&ox Policies
*ailbox policies set restrictions and limits for individual users or subscribers. *ailbox policies are
applied to groups of users and you can have multiple mailbox policies associated with each call plan.
:ach subscriber can only be associated with a single )* mailbox policy. Policies control include P-
control and settings. dialing rules or access. notifications and fax features.

originated on and therefore which group of extension to BAuntC for an open line. , )* Aunt 6roup
must be associated with at least one dial plan on one gateway.
)* Aunt 6roups use Pilot -umbers. which maps to the Pilot -umbers programmed into the PBX.
Pilot -umbers are presented by the $P protocol and are used to identify where the call originated and
where it should be routed to.
+ou can create a new )* Aunt 6roup by using the management console&
