Colorado College makes its lab printers available on the network for anyone’s use. You can even print to a lab printer from a dorm room. Please be aware of where you are printing, however. The College wastes thousands of pages of paper every Block, and it is up to each of us to conserve our resources.
1. Open the Apple Menu, and select “System Preferences” 2. Choose “Print & Fax” from the System Preferences menu:

When Print & Fax opens, choose the + sign, in the middle left of the window, to add a printer:
4. Choose the IP Printer button, and select “Line Printer Daemon – LPD” for the Protocol. Type “printserver.coloradocollege.edu” for the Address box, and the printer name in the Queue box (NOTE: If you are printing to a departmental printer you may need to type prtsrv1.coloradocollege.edu). Change the Name box contents to the printer name as well. Some common printer names are listed in the box below. The printer driver needs to be changed, so select “Print Using” and select the printer driver that matches the printer model number (you may have to visit the printer to find this out – it will say the model on the front of the printer) and
finally, click Add.NOTE: If the printer driver is not listed (most non-college owned computers), it will have to be downloaded and installed from www.hp.com.

Click on the “arrows” next to Print Using” and then select “Select Printer Software…”

Select the appropriate driver according to the printer that you are printing to. In this case we’re printing to the Tutt Basement printer, which is an HP Laserjet 9050. So we’ll select that driver and click on OK! NOTE: If you’re connecting to one of the other printers, you want to pick HP Laserjet 4350.

Now that the printer driver is selected, click on Add to add the printer!

A new window will open presenting printer installable options. If the printer has a large capacity tray and 2-side print capabilities, choose the correct tray and other options. With these printers in the library we have tray 1, a
2000 sheet tray and a Duplex Unit. You should also change the available RAM to be up to 512 MB.If you are not sure which options the printer has, then don’t change anything at this screen. Click continue and your printer is now installed!

To configure your Print & Fax preferences in Mac OS X 10.5 and later:
1. From the Apple menu, select System Preferences... . In System Preferences, from the View menu, select Print & Scan or Print & Fax. 2. Click the + (plus sign) to add a new printer, and in the new window that opens, click the IP icon. 3. Next to "Protocol:", select the protocol your printer uses. If you're not sure, try the default option. 4. In the "Address:" field, type the hostname or IP number of the printer. As you type, your computer will search for printers with that number. Once you have finished, "Valid and complete address" will appear below the "Address:" field. 5. To print to a specific queue, type its name in the "Queue:" field. 6. Give the printer a descriptive name and location in the appropriate fields. Your Mac may guess what your printer is automatically, but if it doesn't, from the pull-down list beside "Print Using:", select Select Printer Software... or Select a driver to use... and then your network printer's model or series. If your printer is not on the list, contact its manufacturer and see if drivers are available for it. 7. Click Add. Your computer may download and install your printer's software. Once it's done, a sheet of installable options will appear. Make adjustments here if you need to, and then click OK or Continue. 8. When your printer is installed, it should appear in the Print & Scan or Print & Fax window. To select a default printer if you have more than one installed, choose a printer from the list in the menu next to "Default Printer:".

To configure the Printer Setup Utility for Mac OS X 10.4:
1. In the Applications folder, go to the Utilities subfolder and open the Printer Setup Utility. 2. From the Printer List that appears, click Add. 3. In the sheet that appears, from the menu at the top, select IP Printer. 4. Next to "Protocol:", select the protocol your printer uses. If you're not sure, try the default option.
5. In the "Address:" field, type the hostname or IP number of the printer. As you type, your computer will search for printers with that number. Once you have finished, "Valid and complete address" will appear below the "Address:" field. 6. To print to a specific queue, type its name in the "Queue:" field. 7. Click Add to continue. You will be prompted to enter additional options for the printer, but you can leave the settings as they are and click Continue. The printer's port number will then appear in your Printer List.
