Harbor House Adopt Adopt-a-Family
Harbor House’s Adopt Family program is offered to the women we Adopt-a-Family are working with over the course of the year who have a financial need for assistance during the holidays. Our donors can adopt a single woman, a mom +1 child, mom +2 children, mom +3 children, etc. We give each woman a “wish list” to fill out as a guide for her “adopter” to use in purchasing items for her and/or her children. Women will fill in requests for themselves and each child. Donors then pick from the items listed to purchase and give to the family. (The average donor spends approximately $ to $75 per person on the $50 family being adopted. A lot of it depends on how savvy of a shopper they are. Some moms simply list gift cards for their children, usually if list they are teens.) We ask that donors purchase a food card for women to use to purchase items for a holiday meal (approximately $10 value per person adopted). If you would like, include gift wrap, bows and tags, but please do not but wrap the gifts. Mothers will wrap their own children’s gifts and volunteers will wrap the gifts for the women. Donors choose a drop drop-off date/time between Monday, December 5 ember and Friday, December 9. ember The following week (December 13 – 16), adopted families are scheduled g to come in to pick up their gifts. Our program is completely confidential. Donors do not know their family’s last name (first names only) and families do not know who adopted them. We do this to protect each family’s safety safety.
