The Akshaya Patra Foundation is an Indian charity for children that began in June 2000. The principle cause of this charity is to provide mid-day meal to Government school children. The vision of the charity clearly states, “No child in India shall be deprived of education because of hunger”. This vision statement of the Foundation gives a clear indication of the path towards which it should steer all its effort. The effort of this NGO in India is towards eliminating hunger and illiteracy. This is seen in its other feeding programmes too. Akshaya Patra is the first and only NGO in India to be a member of the National Steeringcum-Monitoring Committee (NSMC) for Mid-Day Meal Scheme.
