Application and Admission Process Thank you for your interest in graduate study at Ohio University. Uni versity. It is important that you read and understand our Admission Requirements and Requirements and the following before proceeding:

Important Information 











For programs that admit each quarter, you should submit your application at least six weeks prior to your intended start term. For students who need to apply for a visa, application materials should be submitted at least nine months prior to your intended start term and no later than the posted deadline. Please allow for processing time prior to checking on the status of your application. This may be up to four weeks for international students or two weeks for US citizens and Permanent Residents. The Graduate College will rely on email to communicate with you. Maintain and check the e-mail address indicated on your application form throughout the admission process. Notify the Graduate College of any change in e-mail, phone number, or address. Applications must be completed and signed by the applicant. False or incomplete information provided provided as any part of your application material may result in cancellation of admission, registration, or both. Information about your application status, other than confirmation that your application has been received and the program to which you have applied, cannot be disclosed over the telephone or to any third party not specifically designated by you. If you wish to give another person access to your application information, list that person’s name in the space provided on the application form. Admission decisions are sent via US post and not given out over the telephone.

Complete an application form online.  You only need to complete one online application for each degree program to which you are applying.  If completing an online application, do not send in a paper application.   Once payment is authorized, you can no longer make changes to your application. If you must change or correct application information already submitted, please email the appropria appropriate te Record Manager at Manager at the t he Graduate College based on your last name initial and citizenship status.   If you do not have access to the online application, you may fill out and mail in a paper application but please please note this process process may delay your application. application. Pay the NON-REFUNDABLE application fee.  When submitting your application online, you must supply a credit card number or electronic check (U.S. bank only).NOTE: Paying by check can add up to 10 days before the application can be processed processed..  If you wish to pay by conventional check or money order rather than online, please use the paper application.  

. . Request test scores be sent directly to Ohio University   For all non-native speakers of English: You will need your official TOEFL or IELTS score report sent. See English Proficiency for Proficiency for further information. Information about additional tests that may be required by your department can be found   in the Graduate Catalog. Catalog.  The Ohio University Institution code is 1593. . Submit one (1) official transcript  from each postsecondary institution attended, even if no degree was earned (effective September 2010). All transcripts need to be mailed to the Graduate College.  Ohio University transcripts will be obtained by the Graduate College on your behalf.   Detailed information, including information on international transcripts, can be found in the Graduate Catalog. Catalog. If submitting an on-line application, upload items 6-8 (if required by your program) to your application. If you are unable to upload materials or if you are submitting a paper application, you may mail printed copies in one shipment to your department at Graduate Chair (department name), Ohio University, Athens Ohio 45701. . Submit a statement of intent, autobiographical sketch or statement of purpose. . Submit three (3) letters of recommendation written on recommender’s original letterhead stationery, accompanied by completed Ohio University Recommend Recommendation ation Forms. Forms . . Submit other materials required by the department  to which you are applying (personal statement, statement, resume or CV, etc.) Please limit supplemental materials to only those documents requested by the academic program or the Graduate College. . International Students Only: Send the following documents to the Graduate College. 

Official, final diploma and/or certificate  in native language with English translation. In order to be considered official, both the original language and English language documents must be certified or attested (stamped and signed) by the Registrar (or equivalent office) of the degree granting institution(s).(Applicants from India are required to send all of their marksheets received at the end of each semester or annual examination, certified either by the Principal of the College attended attended or the Registrar Registrar of the the degree granting granting university. The consolidated consolidated transcript generated at the end of the program is not considered sufficient by itself.)

All documents received by the University in connection with an application for admission become the property of Ohio University. They will not be returned or forwarded to another agency or

college/university. The university retains portfolios of students accepted for admission. English Proficiency Requirements Proficiency in reading, writing, speaking, and understanding English is essential to your success at Ohio University. Non-native speakers speakers of English must submit official results of one of two standardized tests: the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) (TOEFL) or the International English Language Testing System (IELTS), as part of the application packet. English Requirements for Teaching Assistants If you will be responsible for classroom or laboratory instruction instruction please see the Graduate Catalog for Catalog for details on additional required testing.

English Language Study before Graduate Study Non-native speakers of English who do not have a TOEFL score and are not exempted from having to submit a score with their application or who have a TOEFL score less than the university minimum may apply for English Provisional admission. English Provisional Provisional admission is a combination combination of admission to

 

the Ohio Program of Intensive English (OPIE) and future admission to a graduate degree-seeking program. If you are admitted as English Provisional, you will enroll in English language courses through the Ohio Program of Intensive Intensive English (OPIE) (OPIE) upon your arrival arrival at Ohio University. University. You will have up to two years years to achieve an English proficiency score of at least 550 TOEFL (or as specified by the graduate degree program). Students admitted under English Provisional status are not eligible to t o register for graduate courses or apply for any type of graduate appointment (such as a tuition waiver and/or stipend) until full admission status has been achieved. To apply for English Provisional admission, indicate English Provisional Admission  on your application in the Testing section, and submit all application materials except except the TOEFL as outlined in the application instructions.
