April 3, 2012 PRIMARY ELECTION DAY
• 7:00 a.m. - 8:00 p.m. • Same day registration allowed at the polling place for their precinct of residence • Deadline, at 8:00 p.m. for receipt of electronically received absentee ballots

Saturday, March 31 Early Voting Ends
• register to vote and cast full ballots for their precincts at ward-based early voting centers • centers open Monday-Saturday, 8:30 a.m. - 7:00 p.m. • centers closed on Sundays

Tuesday, March 27 First publish of official ballot sample copy
• in at least one newspaper of general circulation

Tuesday, March 27 Absentee ballots request deadline
• Last day for Board to receive and process mailed or electronically received requests for absentee ballots

Monday, March 26 Campaign Finance report due
• Eight days prior to the election • $500 individual, including both the primary and general elections or special elections • $5,000 Political committees from any one source in any one election (including primary and general elections) • No person may make contributions in any one election to candidates and political committees that exceeds the total sum of $8500

Saturday, March 24 Early Voting Begins

• Deadline for petitioning for credentials for poll watchers and election observers at specific early voting centers, polling places and counting places

March XX Lottery to determine ballot positions Monday, March 19 – Monday, April 2 In-person absentee voting
• Board of Elections and Ethics’ office at One Judiciary Square • Monday-Saturday, 8:30 a.m. - 7:00 p.m. • except Monday, April 2, when in-person absentee voting will take place 8:30 a.m. - 4:45 p.m.

Monday, March 12 Voter Registration Drop-off Deadline
• Last day for Board to receive and process timely completed non-postmarked voter registration applications and registration update notifications

Monday, March 5 Voter Registration Mail-in Deadline
• voter registration by-mail applications and registration update notifications must be postmarked by this date

Monday, March 5 Voter party affiliation Deadline
• Last day for a qualified elector to change his or her party affiliation status

Friday, February 10 Campaign Finance report due
• 10th day of the 2nd month preceding the election • $500 individual, including both the primary and general elections or special elections • $5,000 Political committees from any one source in any one election (including primary and general elections) • No person may make contributions in any one election to candidates and political committees that exceeds the total sum of $8500

Monday, February 6 Validity of Challenges
• Last day for Board to determine the validity of challenges to any nominating petitions

• deadline petition supplements, and supporting documents (e.g., Declarations of Candidacy, Affidavits of Consent, and Delegate Slate Registration forms) for all offices. • 90 days before the election

• not earlier than the 115th day before the primary

• 144 days before the election • For Ward Council Candidates 250 or 1% (whichever is less) of registered qualified electors residing in the same ward from which the candidate seeks election and who are of the same political party as the candidate o Council (Wards 2, 4, 7 & 8; At-Large Member) o Presidential Nominee o Presidential Delegate and Alternate Presidential Delegate o Delegate to the US House of Representatives
