FAMILIAR TOOLS ARCHITECTURE EXPERIENCE GRAPHIC DESIGN/BRANDING

Revit, AutoCAD, Rhino, SketchUp, Illustrator, Photoshop, InDesign, AfterEffects, Pencil and Ink, Watercolor, Pastel, Laser Cutter, Chipboard

Design/Build Internship - Amble Resorts - Panama (June - August 2011) Along with one other Intern, I spent the summer in Panama, working on the development of an eco-tourism resort called Isla Palenque. I was responsible for the design and construction of a multi-purpose pavilion structure built on the beach. Responsibilities included conceptual design, materials selection, detail drawings, fabrication drawings, site work, harvesting local materials (with a machete) and final construction. Architecture Internship - Gensler Baltimore (Sept. 2008 - August 2009) As part of Rice's curriculum structure, every Architecture student is required to work in the field for a year after receiving the BA degree and before completing the B-ARCH degree. I worked for Gensler's Baltimore office where I gained a fuller understanding of the professional environment. During my time with Gensler, I was responsible for creating construction document sets, overseeing meetings with clients and consultants, performing site visits, creating and managing LEED documentation for USGBC submittals and client use, presenting designs to regional directors that were carried out in the field, and working directly with clients on design proposals (and of course changing plotter paper). I honed my abilities in visualization, organization, focus, and developed an entrepreneurial mindset. The scope of projects I worked on included multi-story corporate workplace design, signage and retail interiors, large-scale master planning and site layout. Architecture Internship - Bald Head Island Ltd. (Summer 2006) As a paid architecture intern in the Development and Architecture office of a resort island in North Carolina, I was given the opportunity to design a restaurant addition and a new harbor-side pavilion. I oversaw construction of the restaurant addition and worked directly with the contractor to organize materials scheduling and oversee construction. Lead Designer - Smedly’s (2004-2010) I was commissioned to design an adaptive reuse of an existing two story corner building in Batlimore, MD. The ground floor has been converted into a cafe called Smedly's and the second story is a remodeled apartment for the owners of the cafe. My design was featured on the Discovery Home Channel renovation show “Going, Going, Gone”. The property was also highlighted in the 2007 Fells Prospect House Tour, and a cover-story of The Baltimore Daily Record which stated “...it looks more like a high-dollar Manhattan loft that jumped off the pages of Architectural Digest than a coffee shop in the heart of Baltimore.” I also designed branding materials and print media including menus and signage for the cafe. Freelance Graphic Design (Ongoing) I have taken on a number of freelance graphic design and branding commissions such as: logo design and product labeling for a start-up Soda company founded in Saint Mary's College, Notre Dame, IN; and materials for Roger Williams University Schoolof Law that included a graphic identity, advertisements, publications, and an event program for the school's annual charity Public Interest Law Auction. In my spare time, I like to write and record electronic music, play the metallophone, act in theater, and climb buildings.
