President Cristina Fernández de Kirchner Lawyer Cristina Fernández is the wife of Néstor Kirchner. In 2007, she succeeded her  husband as president. Vice-President Julio Cobos Cobos graduated with a degree in Civil Engineering and is a member of the Radical Civil Union party. Cobos cast an influential novote against the initiative to increase grain export taxes which has caused indescribable tension in the Argentinean government. Supposedly, the President has not directly spoken to Cobos since July 2008. Nevertheless, this move alleviated tension between farmers and the State. Cobos has achieved a high approval rating amongst the Argentineans; thus the  president has not asked for his resignation.
