Hills Missions Newsletter August 2009
Northern Territory
Hills team (Julie Strack, Dave Scott, Matt Crane & Robert Davis) has completed a successful trip to Katherine for the ‘Yangbala Kemp’ - youth camp - in early July. Thanks Team, each of you contributed beyond measure to the success of the camp! Each day presented opportunities to sit amongst the young people as they learned that they were special, unique and hand crafted by God, and called to participate in His purpose. By mid-week, enthusiastic praise songs would fill the camp each night with joy, laughter and praise to God from around community group camp fires. Testimonies by young men and women led to a large number of lives committing to Christ. Prayer circles everywhere in front of the stage till way past midnight saw lives changed. On Thursday afternoon 49 young people stood in the Katherine river as leaders baptized them…’ Robert.

‘..We set out for the mission trip, hearts prepared from weeks of training, spirits for spiritual warfare and prayer partners established. Four long, hot days of camp set-up and preparation. Then … buses began to arrive from 12 communities, traveling from all directions, up to 500 kms away. Hundreds of indigenous youth and leaders to a camp that 2 years ago only drew 26 young people!

News From Klungkung, Bali

Next Mission Trip – Bali/Lombok, December 2009
Hills next short term mission trip will be to the Bali Children’s Home in December this year. All those interested in coming will need to make application to either John Williams or Jacki Whiteside as soon as possible to ensure that the cheapest tickets can be booked. The trip will involve taking the leadership team from Beithel children’s home (panti) in Bali to help disciple, empower and impact the children at the Patmos panti in Lombok. Whilst at Lombok the Hills team will work with, and help support, the Bali youth to achieve this goal. We can take and apply the same strategy to Patmos as Hills, through the Grace of God, has started with Beithel. With God all things are possible! Phil Plowman (Missionary Ventures Australia which helps facilitate Hills Bali projects) comments: ‘… we have come a long way at KlungKung from when I first visited there in April 2003 thanks mainly through the work of Hills. This is where we want to get to with Patmos too, your (Hills) visit in December will be a great follow on… We are well on the way and the goal is clear. What a great strategy to impact the nation of Indonesia for the Kingdom. (Take Indonesia for Jesus one Panti at a time - what a vision - "PANTI TO PANTI" -  each panti to disciple another panti - eg. Klungklung/Patmos)...’

The youths (Leaders in Training) who attended the discipleship camp on the neighbouring island of Lombok (attended by Deon last month) watched a Christian film called “Facing the Giants”. The film was in English with Indonesian subtitles, but the young people still found it to be a very powerful story that really spoke to them. They wanted the rest of the kids at the children’s home to see it. These leaders-in-training have taken over the responsibility for introducing the film to the others at the children’s home. After the film, these leaders will split up the 100 or so children into three groups. They will prepare and lead discussion amongst the children concerning the key points raised within the film, and promote questions that will hopefully engage and encourage them in their walk with Jesus. This event is being used as an opportunity for the youth in leadership to exercise some of the leadership skills that God has given them. Please pray that as the leadership youth prepare to do this that the children watching will understand the significance of the film and that lives will be changed.

Gisela….has left the building ... and is now in Whiteriver, South Africa for
the next 3 months! Gisela will be re-connecting with Steve Parker, Esther and the children at the MCN orphanage, Bukhiwe at Good Hope children’s centre all of which Hills supports in some way. Under the Hands at Work organisation she will also be ministering in the Masoyi community where HIV/AIDS is a serious issue, and Gisela’s hands on approach takes her into the homes of sufferers of this dreadful, and often killer, virus. Armed with muesli bars, lollies, fruit and most importantly, God’s love and blessing, Gisela will again most ably represent Hills in this challenging mission field. Please don’t forget Gisela and continue to pray and uphold her for protection, wisdom, good health and provision.
