Concerns Environment Australia has a broad range of territories, from Antarctic terrain to industrialized urban areas. 11.5% percent of  the country is protected territory. There is some concern over global warming and its possible effects on the Great Barrier Reef and agriculture.

Whaling, the logging of the forests, and coal mining are other chief concerns to Australia’s environment. Homelessness 105 000 Australians are homeless on any given night. This mainly occurs in the urban centres of Sydney, Brisbane, and Melbourne. Many of the homeless suffer  from Post Traumatic Stress Disorder or other mental illnesses. PM Rudd’s White Paper addresses homelessness and he intends to reduce it by 50% before 2020 by breaking the cycle and intervening before homelessness becomes an option. Indigenous Australians This people group often are subject to poorer standards of living than the rest of the population. It wasn’t until 1967 that they were considered in the population count for electoral seats. Unemployment and disease rates (due to poor health facilities) are significantly higher amongst the Indigenes than the rest of the population.

Head of State: Queen Elizabeth II Head of Government: Prime Minister Kevin Rudd Kevin Rudd grew up on a dairy farm and majored in Asian studies in college. His study on Chinese democratic advocacy has shaped his view of  government. One of Rudd’s grandest concerns is the environment. He has promoted several initiatives to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 60% by 2050. He has considered the implementation of an emissions trading scheme to achieve these ends. Rudd has publicly apologized and sought reconciliation with the aboriginal community of  Australia. He has pledged to improve health, education, and living conditions for this community. Rudd is viewed as a social conservative, as he opposes same-sex marriage but offers workplace benefits to same-sex couples. He is a member of the Anglican church, and he   believes that religious leaders should also have a voice in the  political realm.

Queen Elizabeth Mary is in the th 58 year of her reign. This is unusually long for a British monarch. She is also the queen of the United Kingdom, Australia, New Zealand, and several other nations. Queen Elizabeth has enjoyed great health throughout her  reign, and does not plan on abdicating the throne before she dies. The Queen has often been characterized as a distant figure due to her political absence. Nevertheless, she has extremely strong support from her subjects. The Queen serves as the Supreme Governor of the Church of England and supports interfaith efforts, as she meets regularly with leaders of other religious  backgrounds.
