The academic undergraduate degree of Bachelor of Social Science (commonly abbreviated as B.Soc. Sc or BSocSc) usually requires four years of study at a University institution, although some institutions require three years. The degree is normally granted after three years of post-secondary studies. The Main Universities that teach this qualification are University of Waikato, Lincoln University, University of Manchester, University of Tasmania, The University of Queensland, The University of Calgary, The University of Ottawa, The University of New South Wales, Stanford University and University of California, Irvine.

After gaining the Bachelor of Social Science BSocSc, students can progress onto a Bachelor of Social Science (Hons), BSocSc(Hons), this normally is the usual extra year of full time study or 180 points, after gaining this students can then progress onto a Master of Social Science (MSocSc) where they can follow particular "Streams" that contain many different disciplines as listed above. It is also possible to transfer a Bachelor of Social Science into a Bachelor of Arts(Hons) (BA(Hons)) or a Master of Arts (MA) However each university has unique requirements and restrictions as to how this can be done.
