Bad Grandpa
Jeff Tremaine, (2013)

This is the poster analysis for Jeff Tremaine’s US comedy Bad Grandpa. This poster is one of my favourite from those which I have analysed due to the fact that it looks as if it was a photo taken in real life. This movie comes from famous reality TV serious Jackass, well known for its crazy and outrageous stunts. The main image is striking. Irving Zisman (Johnny Knoxville) has a pack of beers in one hand whilst carrying his grandson, Billy (Jackson Nicoll) in the other. The background of the movie poster allows the audience to see the realism of this image. The audience will instantly know that this movie poster has the mark of Jackass all over it, especially with the park in the background, enforcing the public element of the TV series. The medium shot of Grandpa holding Billy by his underwear gives the poster a comedy element and the audience can relate to this as well, probably thinking of a similar situation, which could tie in with the Effects Theory as real life situations influence the film. Even the costume that Knoxville and Nicoll wear gives this film an even realer element. Knoxville is in full character looking just like the 86 year old character that he plays and Nicoll needs no costume as such as he plays a child. The realism and well as comedy element of this film means that it could pass as a real life moment. I feel that this is what I am looking for in my poster and teaser trailer.
