BE A SMART TEACHER ?
Dr.T.V.Rao MD

We the Teachers
Becoming a successful faculty member at a Medical college or any Institution is no trivial undertaking. People are not born knowing how to prepare and deliver effective lectures, make good use of the growing power of instructional technology, write rigorous but fair assignments and exams, help students deal with a bewildering array of academic and personal problems, build reasonably good research program, and teaching assistants

Balancing life with Academics
Balance the endless and often conflicting time demands imposed by teaching, , service, and personal life. It takes most faculty members long years of trial and error to learn how to do all that, and some never quite figure it out.

Every one is interested in improving the world but few practice it ?
Most of us are interested in improving something about ourselves: our productivity, our sanity, our organization, our happiness, our effectiveness, our impact on the environment, our minds, our dreams. Dr.T.V.Rao MD

Think about making better decisions,

do not worry even if you fail?
Think to make make better decisions decisions that benefit yourself and others - this leads to more success in business and finances. You are also more productive when you're happy.

Learn something New every day
Learn something “new” each day to keep growing intellectually. Stagnation of thoughts will eventually end up giving you a cesspool of nothingness. Be curious. Become growth oriented. Always look for information that enhances your personal performance or position in life. “Lazy” is not part of this process!

Our Main Job Is Teaching
[Lecture preparation]
On average, it should take two hours to prepare a new 1-hour lecture on material you know, three at most; half-an-hour to revise a 1-hour lecture; and roughly 30 hours to prepare a 1hour interactive web lecture. If it takes you much more than that, you’re probably over preparing (a common mistake made by new faculty members).

Avoiding overloaded syllabus
Have several professors independently analyse the content of a course and decide which topics they would not include. Those topics may generally be considered optional. Over doing things causes confusion

Read a book on something other than you know
Many Teachers loose interest in reading other than what they are supposed to Teach, However Choose a book that requires effort and concentration and read a little of it every day, so that you read it from cover to cover in 100 days.

Use Instructional technology
Use instructional technology only for tasks that are essential to the course and cannot be done as well—if at all—without it, and when the added cost of using it is reasonable. If you decide to use it and you’re not an expert, get help.

10

Design the Tests with Caution and Practicability
Design tests so that 15–20% of the material is covered only in the lectures, 15–20% only in the readings, and the remaining 60–70% in both. To make sure that a test is not too long, work through it yourself and multiply your solution

Teachers are targets for criticisms
When someone does or says something that upsets you, take a minute to think over your response instead of answering right away Teachers are targets for criticisms Think how much you are responsible before you React ? 12

Good Teachers Really Want to Be Good Teachers
Good teachers try and try and try, and let students know they try. Just as we respect students who really try, even if they do not succeed in everything they do, so they will respect us, even if we are not as good as we want to be.

Think positive avoid negative ideas

Thinking positive is the Best Option
Negative talk produces negative thoughts; negative thoughts produce negative results”, Feed your mind with the thoughts, words, and images that are most consistent with who you want to be, what you want to have, and what you want to achieve.

Never Forget We are Gifted People
We teachers have something called academic freedom. Too many of us interpret that to mean the freedom from firing. I love taking risks. It keeps some excitement in what is, after all, a pretty placid profession.

15

Do not Bother
I like to try things that can fail. If there is no chance of failure, then success is meaningless.
Dr.T.V.Rao MD 16

Teach Others How to Treat You
Become aware of the differences between how you treat others, and how you treat yourself. Are you dismisive of yourself? Do you treat yourself with the same respect that you treat others?

Good Teachers Never Have Enough Time

Just about all of the good teachers I have known are eternally busy.
Dr.T.V.Rao MD 18

Good teacher have little Time to Relax
For good teachers the day is never done. While it does not follow that any teacher who keeps busy is a good teacher, the good teachers I know rarely have time to relax

Smile More – Complain less
It sounds simple and old, but it is absolutely true. Often we don't realise how sullen we are. Consciously making an effort to smile more even when you're alone (especially when you're alone) will increase your general state of mind automatically.

Some people are just bad learn to deal with them
We all come across people who upset us or make us angry. We all come across people who seem to be just mean and nasty. Here's a perspective-adjuster that can really help in dealing with such people. The people around you are not your choice try to ignore them .

Read a New Topic Think New
Read about a subject you wouldn’t normally. This is a great way to develop a better understanding of the world. It will also make you a more interesting person in the process.

Good Teachers Do Not Trust Student Evaluations
We have noticed that good teachers, when they get really good evaluations, don't quite believe them. They focus instead on the one or two erratic evaluations that say something bad about them. They good teachers tend to trust only the negative evaluations

life is new every day

be curious like a Child to learn

Dr.T.V.Rao MD

24

Good Professors Learn from Student Evaluations
Good teachers tend to discount the positive evaluations, however numerous they may be; lessgood teachers tend to discount the negative evaluations, however numerous they may be.

Teachers should Create World of Possibilities

Never forget punctuality and sincerity more respected than your status
