Communication III
PERSUASIVE SPEECH PLAN
Title: Be yourself, Be free
Specific Speech Purpose: To persuade my Communication III class to not conform
to society’s idea of beauty and perfection.
Statement: We should not comply with society’s impossibly high standards of
beauty where only the people with thin and Caucasian features are considered
beautiful.
INTRODUCTION
I. Attention Step: A global survey conducted by Dove on 3,200 women from ages
18-64 showed that only 4 percent of these women believed that they were
beautiful. In a national survey, statistics showed that only 7 percent of Filipinas
think they are beautiful.
II. Clarification Step: Our perception of beauty, which is based solely on the
physical appearances, is defined by what we see in magazines, and what we hear
from our peers. We change to adapt to what others think as beautiful
BODY
I. Everyone believes the present and narrow criteria of beauty. We judge and
criticize ourselves and others that is why people try to change themselves to
conform to this standard.
A. To be beautiful, one has to have flawless and light skin tone, tamed locks,
thin waist, ample breasts and pointed straight nose
B. We glorify the people in magazines for being beautiful and we turn against
who we think are ugly. We even turn against ourselves and let insecurity get
the best of us.
C. People change themselves to fit in the mold of what is beautiful. In exchange
for being beautiful, women sacrifice their health, their money, and their
uniqueness.
1. To have flawless and light skin tone, people turn to gluta and whitening
soaps
2. To have luscious locks, people spend money on hair treatments in salons
3. To have thin waists, people do extreme dieting and exercise. Sometime
people develop disorders like anorexia and bulimia just to get thin.
4. To have ample breasts and a straight nose, people turn to plastic surgeries
II. Everyone is brainwashed by the society. We should only decide for ourselves
and let others be. Let them think what they will. There is a way to be freed from
the chains of society. The solution is to have a better idea of self.

A. We should just let ourselves be our own perceiver. Beauty is in the eye of the
beholder so we should be our own beholder. We are beautiful and no one can
tell us otherwise
B. Focus on the good things that only we have.
C. Believe that we are beautiful.
D. Do things for yourself only and not for others.
E. Stop changing yourself, be you.
