NASHVILLE SCHOOL FOUNDING & LEADERSHIP FOUND A COLLEGE PREPARATORY ELEMENTARY CHARTER SCHOOL TRAIN TO LEAD A COLLEGE PREPARATORY ELEMENTARY CHARTER SCHOOL IN NASHVILLE The Building Excellent Schools (BES) Fellowship in Nashville provides an entrepreneurial education, business, or policy leader the chance to lead the founding team of a proposed high performing, college preparatory elementary charter school in South Nashville, study the nation’s strongest urban charter schools and receive technical training and support from BES and the Center for Charter School Excellence in Tennessee. THE SCHOOL The proposed school will be founded with the beliefs that college preparation begins in Kindergarten and that dramatic student achievement is possible within a highly structured, no‐excuses, results‐oriented school culture in which leadership drives, communicates, and supports instructional expectations in every class every day. Set the Vision. The school leader will build the vision and infrastructure of a new elementary charter school that will propose to open its doors in 2012. Build Skills. The school leader will develop skills specifically targeted at school founding including school design, operations, board and organizational development. During 85 training days, a residency in a high‐performing urban charter school, school visits and work in Nashville, the school leader will move the school from charter application and board development, through authorization and school start‐up. Build Support. The school leader will attract a cadre of invested community stakeholders, families, board, civic leaders and staff who will all work towards the same outcome – academic success for students. The school leader will design, build, and manage the charter school with continued support from the Center for Charter School Excellence and Building Excellent Schools. THE SUPPORT Building Excellent Schools is a national non‐profit organization with more than a decade of experience training leaders to found independently managed urban charter schools. Alumni of the BES Fellowship have founded more than 40 urban charter schools across the country including schools in Tennessee. Many schools founded by BES Fellows have received national recognition for outstanding student achievement. Building Excellent Schools is a partner of the Center for Charter School Excellence in Tennessee. The Center for Charter School Excellence in Tennessee is an entity designed to accelerate the closure of the achievement gap in the state.
