Vol. 82, No. 212 © 2013 Post Register, Idaho Falls, Idaho 75¢ daily / $1.50 Sunday
I Local auto dealers hope
new deals will make the cars
more attractive to buyers.
ASSOCIATED PRESS and POST REGISTER
Auto companies are hoping lower lease
prices can put a charge into sluggish elec-
tric car sales.
Honda announced Thursday that it’s
slashing the monthly lease cost of its tiny
Fit EV by one-third, following similar
moves by other automakers.
Honda also is throwing in other goodies,
such as a free home charging station and
unlimited mileage.
The Fit EV is not available for purchase
at Smith Group Honda in Idaho Falls, but
the lease deals soon could change that,
sales manager Frank Sykes said.
“(The Fit
EV) is a new
enough tech-
nology that it
has to really
grab attention
to be available
here,” Sykes
said. “It’s diffi-
cult (to sell
electric cars)
around here,
but the lease
program could
help that.”
Still, Sykes
said many
Idaho Falls res-
idents are
skeptical of
buying electric
cars.
“(Electric cars) are definitely harder to
sell than a regular good fuel economy car,”
Sykes said. “You really have to own the car
for awhile for it to pay off.”
Earlier this month, General Motors Co.
said it would lease the subcompact Spark
EV for $199 per month with $999 due at
signing as it goes on sale in California and
Oregon.
Nissan is offering a $199-per-month
lease on its Leaf electric car with $1,999
down. That’s down from a high of $369 per
month back in 2011.
At Ron Sayer Auto Group in Idaho Falls,
sales manager Matthew Jolley isn’t expect-
ing a rush of customers for the Leaf, despite
the lowered lease costs.
“It’s a phenomenal car, but we just won’t
have the infrastructure here until the city or
state installs charging stations where driv-
ers can plug their vehicle in,” Jolley said.
Between the Leaf’s lowered lease price
and home charging capabilities, though,
Jolley said the electric car is still a bargain
for drivers.
“You are essentially driving this car for
free because you make up what you pay for
the lease by not paying for fuel,” he said.
Both the Spark and Leaf leases run for
three years but have 12,000-mile annual
limits on the number of miles one can drive
without incurring mileage charges.
Low leases
for electric
cars may
give sales
jump-start

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. —It is
easy to look at Jon Boling as a statistic.
Last year, he was one of roughly
10,000 people from across the country
and around the world to launch at
Boundary Creek on the Middle Fork of
the Salmon River.
Boling also was one of three boaters
in the past three years to die on the “The
River of No Return,” a 100-mile plunge
through the wild heart of Idaho.
Boling, 34, died June 3, 2012, just two
hours into a five-day float. His heart
stopped after he was tossed from his
cataraft into the river’s chilly waters.
He is a number, certainly, but he also
was a person, a man formed by rivers,
beer and the memory of a grandfather
who died rafting.
LIFE OF THE PARTY
Boling is remembered by family and
friends —even acquaintances —as a big
man with a big personality.
A son of the South, he found a home
in the West, where he pursued skiing,
rafting and microbrews with equal gusto.
“We said there warn’t no home like a raft,
after all. Other places do seem so cramped up
and smothery, but a raft don’t. You feel mighty
free and easy and comfortable on a raft.”
From “The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn,” and the introduction to
Jon “JB” Boling’s obituary in the June 10, 2012, edition of the
Colorado Springs Gazette

Company description: Jakers Bar and Grill Restau-
rant has a lot to celebrate this year when it comes to
“Best of the Best” Readers Choice.
Jakers takes four frst place awards and two second
place and they owe it all to an amazing mix of custom-
er service and quality products.
“I think we’re consistent with our food and service,”
said Patti Jenkins, the general manager of Jakers when
asked why she thought the restaurant has earned such
high awards. “We try to always treat our guests like
royalty.”
Jakers took frst in the categories for best American
restaurant, best lunch restaurant, best place to take a
date and best all-around restaurant and second in best
seafood and best steak. Jenkins believes that the com-
munity knows what expectations will be met when
dining at Jakers.
“Whether they’re here to grab a quick bite to eat at
the salad bar or sit down for a meeting, or take a date
for a special occasion, we have the diversity to make
everyone feel comfortable,” Jenkins said. “We see a lot
of engagements and anniversary celebrations because
people feel well treated and they can really feel special
when dining here.”
Besides atmosphere Jakers is devoted to serving the
best quality of meat and seafood. Jakers takes the best
cuts of meat and hand cuts them before cooking them
to perfection. Tey always takes their seafood as fresh
as they can fnd it, ofen from Hawaii.
“I’ve been with Jakers for almost 23 years,
and I feel that our hospitality is the best
aspect,” said Jenkins. “If we don’t know who
we’re serving, we ask, we want to be on a frst
name basis with every one of our diners.”
Jakers is located at 851 Lindsay Boulevard
and is open seven days a week.
