1. What is the bible for?

Idea one (with 5 sub ideas):

(1) The Bible is our source of information about God —who He is and what He has done for us. (2) The Bible is a revelation of man—his character, history, and spiritual needs. (3) The Bible also tells us about God’s plan of salvation, which provides forgiveness and renewal for man in his sinful situation. (4) The Bible reveals what God’s standards of right and wrong are and what His will is for His creatures. (5) Christian faith is one of hope for the future, and the Bible alone can chart the course of our future into eternity. It would be difficult to overemphasize the importance of the Bible and what it reveals. Source: John F. Walvoord ―How the Bible Was Written‖ Retrieved from © Copyright 1995 - 2011 bible.org. Idea 2: In spite of its diversity, it has continuity, beginning in Genesis and ending in the book of Revelation. In its contents are included moral and political law, history, poetry, prophecy, and letters Source:

Idea 3: The Bible is not only supernatural in its origin but also supernatural in its truth, dealing with subjects such as salvation, forgiveness, righteousness, spiritual restoration, and hope for eternity. The scope of the revelation extending from eternity past to eternity future obviously requires divine revelation. Source: http://bible.org/seriespage/how-bible-was-written

To spread God’s words The bible tells us the existence of God and His Son, Jesus Christ

Essay: Who says that the bible is just a normal book that has boring and religious stories in it? Well, if you are thinking the same way, then you are totally wrong. The bible has lots and lost of interesting stories that will feed your mind and heart. It is also a storehouse of pleasing stories for children. Remember Noah and the ark? The parables of Jesus? In these stories, we identify the achievements and disappointments of normal and ordinary people.

The bible is our friend and guide to God’s kingdom. It is a protection from trouble. People in pain, in sorrow, in jail and even in mourning, tell how they turned to the Bible and found strength and power there in their distressed hours.

The bible is not just an ordinary book where one can read without being moved and learning something. That will only apply to people who will not read and understand the bible seriously. It contains different reasons why the Son if God died for us and such. In this book, we get to know what God really wants from us. His commandments are stated there thus, we get to know and be aware of God’s rules. The bible allows us to transform and be good followers. It contains stories of faith and hope. Hence, it is a good source of strength especially when we have challenges and problems in life.

2. What’s the origin of the bible? Idea 1:

It would be impossible to explain the origin of the Bible by any other means than to note that it claims to be a supernatural book guided by the Holy Spirit and supports its claim by the facts presented. Though human authors were used and the Bible has clear evidence of their human involvement in writing the Bible, they were so guided by the Holy Spirit that what they wrote was the truth as God wanted it to be said, and they were kept from the error of including anything that was extraneous or unnecessary.

The contents of the Bible make clear that it has to be supernatural in its origin because the Bible includes revelation beyond the scope of people ’s knowledge. The Bible also presents God’s point of view of human activity and history, which would be impossible to learn unless God Himself revealed it. Source: R.K. Harrison, Introduction to the Old Testament (Grand Rapids: Eerdmans, 1969, pg. 201)

Idea 2: We know that the Bible is authentic because He quoted from it. Remember when He kept saying "It is written ..." when He was tempted in the wilderness? It is that, and His many other references. the books of the Bible are said to be in the canon of the Bible. This simply means that over time, scholars have come to accept certain books as authentic, inspired books that contain the Word of God, while rejecting other books as uninspired.

There are several books that people have tried to move into the biblical canon that never made it. For example, the Gospel of Thomas claims to be an inspired book about the childhood of Jesus. However, when this book is compared with the four

Gospels (the books of Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John), the Gospel of Thomas_ is clearly inferior. Source: "Scripture taken from the NEW AMERICAN STANDARD BIBLE®, © Copyright The Lockman Foundation 1960, 1962, 1963, 1968, 1971, 1972, 1973, 1975, 1977, 1995. Used by permission." (www.Lockman.org)

Idea 3: To base one's religion on a scripture as deeply suspect as the Bible, and declare it to be absolutely inerrant and reliable, is to build one's religion on what is clearly a foundation of sand.

If the lessons of recent Biblical scholarship mean anything, it is that the history of Christianity and the Bible it spawned is a very messy one that seriously calls into question the divinity, if not the validity of the message. To deny that fact is to simply deny reality.

Yet many people continue to do just that, even in the face of evidence that they and the religion they support are clearly wrong in holding that the origins of Christianity are divine and unsullied by human politics, greed and arrogance.

It can only be said that doing so is to display a form of ignorance. What then of the fundamentalist groups that do so, loudly and insistently? Clearly, they believe what they believe, not because it is true, but for other, less sound reasons, the primary reason being that the truth requires the painful admission that they are wrong.

In related essays, I have written of the the many basic errors of fundamentalism, and the virulence of Christianity as a meme complex. Clearly, believing because they want to believe, not because it is true, Christians around the world are making these fundamental errors. It is a sure prescription for ignorance, not wisdom. Ideas:     The Bible itself, speaks about origins The bible is to prove God’s words The bible is made to strengthen Christian’s faith The bible is for spreading the Words of God

Essay: The God of the Bible proves that He is the Creator by indicating that He exists outside of our aspect of time. We are permanently stuck in this time domain and can only know the present and the past. It is impossible to know anything that is in the future of our time line. This is exactly where God says and claims that He dwells. The Bible is

the only book that can prove its text comes from a being that exists outside our time domain.

The bible’s stories were handed down by word of mouth from generation to generation by parents, elders and storytellers. Although the original manuscripts of the books of the Bible are no longer in existence, we still have access to thousands of Testaments manuscripts that originated in many certain places in the world.

3. Old Testament vs. New Testament - What are the differences? Idea 1: In Old Testament times, there was no direct link between God and men - other than the men whom God appointed as links. Those men were God's prophets, God's friends, and God's leaders. For example, Moses inquired of God, and would pass on God's words to the people.

Prophets, those who speak forth God's Words, had to be 100% correct when they shared God's Words with the people. After all, there was no simple way for people to check those words. The only test was to see whether the word came true. If it came true, the prophet was a prophet of God. If not, the prophet was not a prophet of God.

As time progressed, a record grew - both oral and written. As it grew, this record enabled people to double-check prophecies and teachings more easily. Source: ―Old Testament vs. New Testament - What are the differences?‖ retrieved August 9, 2011 from www.gotquestions.org

Idea 2: Here is where many Christians get confused. After Jesus’ death on the cross, we are now under a new covenant with God the Father. As stated above, no more animal sacrifices are needed to get forgiveness for our sins. However, there are verses in the New Testament that state that we are no longer under the law, but under grace.

Some Christians mistakenly think we no longer have to obey any of the basic laws and commandments set out by God the Father in the Old Testament since we are now operating under a new covenant with Jesus. But this view is wrong. Jesus Himself says that He did not come to do away with the law, but to fulfill it.

Granted, many of the ceremonial type laws back in the Old Testament are no longer applicable in today’s world, but many of the moral laws that God had set out are still in full play today.

For instance, some Christians believe that since tattoos are not mentioned in the New Testament, but just in the Old Testament, that they no longer have to abide by God’s command on this issue from back in the Old Testament, and they are now free to be able get tattoos in this day and age.

Jesus did what the lambs could not fully do in the Old Testament. His death on the cross gave all of us who will accept it – full, final and permanent forgiveness for all of our sins – all past, present and future sins that we will ever commit.

When the Bible says we are no longer under the law, but under grace in the New Testament, what it is referring to is that we do not have to kill animals anymore for the forgiveness of our sins. We are now under God’s grace and me rcy because His Son has now died for us, and we now have total and complete forgiveness for all of our sins.

Idea 3: There are two ways that most people approach the Bible - for inspiration and to determine what it means.

For inspirational reading it can open heart to God in a very special way. Many people choose to meditate privately or form or join groups that discuss specific passages for the purpose of deepening spiritual side.

In the first account of creation (Gen. 1:1-2:4) God makes the heavens and the Earth, the animals and then finally man with man being the climax of His creation being as man is created in God’s image. However, in the second story of creation (Gen. 2:4ff-25) God made the heavens and the earth, man then plants and animals. If we take both of these accounts to be literally true we believe in two very different orders of

creation at the same time. It is impossible for two contradictory statements to be true at the same time. On the other hand, not that the two ways never coincide, there are many scholars and regular people that pour over the many pages of Scripture to determine its meaning and revelation to us by God. This takes much care since the Bible has many different literary styles within it. This is most likely due to the reason that it is not just one book, but a collection of books written by many human authors and one divine author. We do not know who all of the authors were. Ideas:     The God in the old testament is a God with anger, bitterness and jealousy The God in the new testament Is loving and forgiving In the old testament, God flooded the world, burnt cities and such In the new testament, God healed the wounded and forgave people

Essay: God did not change his mind about anything, in fact in the Old Testament, from the time when the fall in the Garden of Eden, humanity has been less than it was made to be. We are under an oath in result of death and need of a Savior to save us. In the Old Testament God mentioned about his promise. You have an Old Testament of people who disobey God from the time he created Adam and Eve, to the end before Jesus comes to earth. God showed patience

then You have new Testament where The birth, life and death of the Lord Jesus

changed everything, Jesus was crucified to save us. The day when Jesus will return in judgment, he will judge all the nations for their sin. God’s holy nature does not change. He is the same God in the Old Testament as He is in the New Testament, the only thing is different is we are allow to repent our sins and take note, before we weren't allow to.

Conclusion: When we do our part of spreading God’s words and touching our neighbour’s hearts then it would be very rewarding and honourable for us because we know deep in our hearts that we have helped God with the best way we can.

To sum up everything, through the bible, many lives have been saved and a lot may still be saved as long as they apply what is written and put in the bible. It plays an important role today in bringing the people together. The bible may seem to be just a normal book where one can read about the life of Jesus and stories such as parables, but this book has the power to change hundreds and millions of people.

The bible also informs us about history and other political views. In the New Testament, it shows some of the differences in Christian traditions and practices. As you can see, there are lots of things to study in the bible. There are also endless numbers of different reasons that a person may want to do so. Others may come to study the bible because they are interested in history involved. Or they may be interested in other religions and get to compare the differences and similarities of different beliefs. They may want to know how such a powerful religion is developed; while others read and study the bible because they are Christians. For them, studying the bible is a way of getting back in touch with a faith they might have been taught but got lost contact with it. Always keep in mind that the bible can get a person far and achieve his or her goals and ambition in life.
