Biotechnology in India got boost from the Department of Biotechnology (DBT)
that was set up in 1986 under the Ministry of Science and Technology. Since then
many research and development projects by the Department of Biotechnology
have been undertaken that have given pace to biotechnology in India as a whole.
With this the face of biotechnology in India has changed and many new biotech
companies in India have emerged since then. Not only Indian companies but also

companies
in
India.
Top biotech companies in India has developed many new hybrid varieties of
crops that are good in producing large quantity of crop along with high quality.
This has given a boom to agriculture. By altering the genetic constitution more
nutritious vegetables and fruits are now grown and moreover these are now
available across the year. Also many disease resistant crops have been
developed by the biotechnology companies in India that results in enormous
growth.
New vaccines have also been invented by the biotechnology companies in India
that include Hepatitis-B, anti rabies vaccine, MMR and so on. New protein or
molecules have been developed by the biotech companies along with
pharmacology that can directly hit the path of the disease and provide the
permanent cure against any disease. Insulin, blood clotting factor, enzymes,
vaccines etc that are the product of biotechnology can now cure many human
diseases. So the healthcare is the sector that has been benefited by the
marvelous
work
done
in
biotechnology
sector.
With advancement in biotechnology we can also make our environment cleaner
and a better place to live. We can find out the present degrading pathway and
make ways to improve it. With this more emphasis is given to the green
environment and green living. Moreover such micro-organisms have been
