HOOPS NOTES

– Delaware State, who got a win over Penn of the Ivy League to open the season Nov. 15,

followed that up with a big win at ACC-member Wake Forest Saturday night, 72-65.
Amere May, who played at Delaware State before transferring to Saint Augustines of the CIAA, is now back at DelState. He had 32 points including six 3-pointers in the win.

By the way, DelState lost to Iona 106-76 on Nov. 26. In that game, A.
J. English had 26 points for Iona. English, a 6-4 shooting guard, is the son of the
former Virginia Union and CIAA hoops standout of the same name. The father was
the 1990 NCAA Div. II player of the year before a two-year career in the NBA with
Amere May
the Washington Bullets (now Wizards) and an extended 8-year international hoops
career.

The younger English, a junior, had 26 points vs. DelState and has had 37- and 27- point games
earlier this season. He is shooting 48.4% from the field, 43.1% from behind the arc, 83.% from the line
and currently leads the Gaels in scoring at 25.2 points per game, 2nd best in the nation.

Old A. J. English

New A. J. English

–A rare feat happened Saturday for this time of the basketball season - the MEAC won four
non-conference games. Norfolk State (over St. Peters), North Carolina Central (over Northern Arizona), Maryland-Eastern Shore (over Fordham) and Howard (over Gwynedd-Mercy??) each got wins
Saturday.
