• BCSP No. 2 ALCORN STATE defeated Alabama State 33-7 and with BCSP No. 1 North
Carolina A&T’s 13-0 loss to South Carolina State, the 5-1 Braves move to the top of the BCSP Top Ten.
Te Braves have been the most dominant team in black college football so far, leading the SWAC in scor-
ing ofense (44.7 ppg.), scoring defense (12.5), total ofense (529.8 ypg.), total defense (262.8), rushing
ofense (330.2) and rushing defense (81.3). Alcorn is averaging 587 total ofensive yards and 47.0 points in
its three SWAC wins.

• Facing BCSP No. 1 North Carolina A&T back-up freshman quarterback Hassan Klugh,
BCSP No. 7 SOUTH CAROLINA STATE held the Aggies to 156 total yards including just 43 rushing
yards – 49 on 21 carries by MEAC rushing leader Tarik Cohen – in a 13-0 shutout. Te Bulldogs (4-2,
2-0 MEAC) are tied atop the MEAC with Norfolk State (2-4, 2-0).

• VIRGINIA UNION moved to 4-1 overall and at 2-0 atop the CIAA North with a 31-9 win
over Shaw. Te Panthers, in their frst year under new head coach Mark James, got 292 passing yards
and two TD passes from QB Kenneth Graham. Both scoring tosses went to Donte Gross, who had four
receptions for 168 yards, the scoring catches covering 74 and 67 yards. Panthers defenders also picked of
three Shaw passes.

• BCSP No. 8 GRAMBLING STATE, under new head coach Broderick Fobbs, improved to 3-0
atop the SWAC West, 3-3 overall, with a 38-28 win over Alabama A&M. GSU QB Johnathan Williams
accounted for 353 total yards, 291 passing and 63 rushing, in the win. Afer an A&M touchdown cut
the lead to 24-22 early in the fourth quarter, Grambling kick returner Martez Carter
returned the ensuing kickof 92 yards to paydirt. Afer holding the Bulldogs to a 3-and-
out, the G-Men added an insurance score, going 53 yards in seven plays capped by a
6-yard Williams pass to Verlon Hunter.

• Quarterback Phillip Sims hit on 5 of 9 passes for 128 yards and two scores
and co-starter Rudy Johnson was a perfect 7 of 7 for 186 yards and two scores as BCSP
No. 5 WINSTON-SALEM STATE unleashed the pair in a 77-30 pasting of Chowan.
Te Rams (4-1, 2-0 S) also rushed for 262 yards and four rushing TDs in the win.

• NORTH CAROLINA CENTRAL (2-3, 1-0 MEAC) got the frst MEAC win
for new head coach Jerry Mack in a 27-22 home win over Howard. Eagle QB Mal-
colm Bell threw for 250 yards (20 of 30) and three TDs without an interception in outplaying
reigning MEAC Ofensive Player of the Year, Howard QB Greg McGhee (32-49-2, 291 yards,
2 TDs). Bell also rushed for 66 yards to total 316 yards on the game. McGhee, who leads the
league in total ofense, also ran for 86 yards to account for 377 yards.

• MOREHOUSE got 104 rushing yards and 2 TDs from RB Monqavius Johnson in
downing crosstown rival Clark Atlanta, 20-7. Te Maroon Tigers are atop the SIAC East at 3-0
(4-1 overall) headed into its annual showdown Saturday in Columbus, Ga. with West co-leader
Tuskegee (3-2, 2-0 W).

– BOWIE STATE - Te Bulldogs (1-4) got their frst win behind 173 passing yards and two
TDs from QB Trevon Bennett (15-29-1) in a 24-0 shut out of Johnson C. Smith. BSUs four scoring
drives averaged 13 plays and 82 yards.
- PRAIRIE VIEW A&M – Jerry Lovelocke threw a go-ahead 23-yard touchdown pass, spark-
ing a 21-point fourth quarter to give Prairie View (1-4) its frst win of the season over Jackson State
48-30 on Saturday night.
– FAYETTEVILLE STATE - Te Broncos (1-4) rode two TD passes from QB Derek Bryant to
Kasunn Williams and two short TD runs from Andre Montgomery to its frst win, 34-13 over Lincoln.
Montgomery ran for 130 yards on 16 carries and scored on 1- and 3-yard runs. Te TD receptions by
Williams covered 17 and 29 yards.

– Virginia Union has three receivers in the top ten in receiving yards per game in the CIAA.
Donte Gross (6-1, 190, R-Fr.) averages 122.2 yards per game, Florida A&M transfer Lenworth Lennon
(5-10, 190, Gr.) averages 68.2 and Jussie York (6-2, 190, Jr.) averages 61.0. Gross has 16 catches for 489
yards (30.6 ypc.) and averages 56.4 yards per reception on his fve TD catches (49, 54, 38, 74, 67).

- Kentucky State RB Jacquise Lockett had the top rushing day of the week, rambling for 243
yards on 36 carries with TD runs of 56 and 68 yards in the win over Central State.

- Herb Walker of Morgan State rushed for 202 yards on 22 carries in the Bears 24-9 over
Florida A&M and now has 915 yards and 8 scores on the season. Te 915 yards is one yard behind FCS
leader Khairi Dickson of St. Francis (Pa.) and his 152.5 rushing yards per game is fourth in the FCS.

- Saint Augustines had QB Cyril Davis throw for 277 yards and 1 TD, RB Roderick Daven-
port run for 145 yards and 3 scores and WR Claytin Lewis catch 4 passes for 126 yards and one score
but it wasn‘t enough in a 42-35 loss to Virginia State.

- Stillman QB Josh Straughan threw six TD passes in the Tigers 55-16 win over Lane.
Straughan, who threw the TD passes to six diferent receivers, has 11 TD passes on the season with just
one interception.
- Michael German of Tennessee State completed 34 of 59 passes for 362 yards with 2 TDs and
1 interception in the loss to Southeast Missouri.

- Livingstone WR Jalen Hendricks surpassed his 8-reception, 137-yard per
game average hauling in nine passes for 143 yards and 2 scores in the Blue Bears frst
loss, 59-21 to Elizabeth City State. Hendricks (6-2, 205) is tops in black college foot-
ball but is second in NCAA Div. II football in receiving yards (681), receiving yards
per game (138.2) and TD receptions (10) and is fourth in receptions per game (8.2).
Livingstone QB Drew Powell threw three more TD passes and now has a black college
best 17 on the season. Tat number is tied for fourth in NCAA Div. II.

- Six-six Alcorn State QB John Gibbs Jr. accounted for 323 total yards in the win over Ala-
bama State, 217 yards (20-33) thru the air and 106 on the ground.
