WORTH NOTING
– Howard (1-7) and Arkansas-Pine Bluf (1-5) have among the worst records in black college
football and two of the best quarterbacks who are closing out very productive careers.
Howard senior signal-caller Greg McGhee leads the MEAC in total ofense at 275.2 yards per
game, throwing for 200.9 yards per game, second best in the league, and rushing for 74.4 yards per game,
ffh best. Tis week McGhee accounted for 399 yards, throwing for 258 yards and rushing for 141 in the
Bisons‘ loss to Florida A&M. McGhee, with 9,135 total ofensive yards (2,237 rushing, 22 TDs - 6,808
passing, 42 TDs) in 39 games in his career, needs 712 total yards over the remaning four games to break
former Howard QB Ted White‘s MEAC total ofense record of 9,846 yards. White is now Howards ofen-
sive coordinator.
Arkansas-Pine Bluf senior Benjamin Anderson is frst in
the SWAC in total ofense (297.5 yards per game), second in pass-
ing at 233.8 ypg. and seventh in rushing at 63.7 yards per game.
Saturday, he piled up 533 yards of ofense, throwing for 467 yards
and two scores and running for 66 yards and two scores in a loss to
Grambling State. Anderson is currently 9th in the FCS in total of-
fense (297.5 ypg.). Anderson has amassed 10,157 total yards (1,736
yards rushing, 20 TDs - 8,419 yards passing, 54 TDs) in his career.
He is ffh in career total ofense in the SWAC behind Alcorn State
QB Steve McNair (16,823), Grambling QB Bruce Eugene (14,720),
Mississippi Valley State QB Willie Totten (13,007) and Jackson
State QB Robert Kent (12,538).
- Livingstone WR Jalen Hendricks is the frst black college receiver to top 1,000 yards this sea-
son as he grabbed another 15 passes for 212 yards and one touchdown in the Blue Bears win over Shaw.
He now has 65 receptions for 1,003 yards and 11 TDs through seven games.
- Shaw RB Marquise Grizzle had his second straight 200-yard game, both losses for the Bears.
Grizzle ran for 222 yards on 29 carries and scored two TDs in the 21-20 loss to Livingstone Satur-
day. Over the last two weeks, Grizzle has 422 rushing yards on 57 carries.
- Bethune-Cookman sits atop the MEAC race with a 3-0 record but fve teams are right behind
them with just one conference loss. N. C. A&T, Morgan State and Norfolk State are 3-1, South Caro-
lina State and North Carolina Central are 2-1. Florida A&M is also 2-1 but ineligible for the confer-
ence title. Te way the MEAC schedule rotates, i.e. two conference teams are not on the schedule of each
team, who one plays or does not play will in many ways determine who wins the league title this year.
B-CU does not play A&T or Morgan State. In addition to B-CU, A&T does not play Norfolk
State. In addition to B-CU, Morgan does not play Savannah State. In addition to A&T, Norfolk State does
not play Howard. SC State does not play Howard and Delaware State and NC Central does not play Dela-
ware State and Florida A&M.
So, who‘s the favorite? Figure it out and let me know! ([email protected])
- Virginia Union running back Cassious McDowell has had two of-the-chain weeks. Last
week he ran just nine times for 174 yards and 4 TDs in a win over Lincoln. He followed it up this week
with 139 rushing yards in just 11 carries in a win over Chowan. Add it up and McDowell has 313 yards

minutes lef to give Livingstone a 21-20 win over Shaw. Te lefy (23-34), who passed for 267 yards but
was picked of three times, threw two TD passes in the frst half to give the Blue Bears a 14-12 halfime
lead. Shaw went ahead 20-14 on a late third-quarter TD run by Doug Jones.
• MORGAN STATE - Afer falling behind North Carolina Central 20-7 early in the fourth
quarter, Morgan State scored two fourth-quarter touchdowns, the last with just 32 seconds on the clock
to tie the score and the PAT kick by Chris Moller proved to be the diference in a 21-20 Bears win. Herb
Walker Jr. scored on a 4-yard run with 9:03 lef to pull MSU within 20-14 and Andrew King scored on
a 15-yard pass from Robert Council to tie the game at 20. Te fnal drive covered 66 yards in 10 plays.
