• BCSP No. 8 VIRGINIA STATE - Te Trojans (7-2, 6-0 CIAA N) had three
rushers top 100 yards, totalling 324 yards on the ground, as they downed Chowan 40-
7. Earl Hughes rushed for 120 yards on 19 carries and scored on runs of 3 and 7 yards
to pace VSU. QB Tarian Ayres added 100 yards on 9 carries and scored on a 47-yard
second quarter TD run. Ayres (17-29-0) also threw for 205 yards and connected with
Kavon Bellamy on a 15-yard TD pass to open the scoring. Bellamy ran for 104 yards
on 20 carries.
• VIRGINIA UNION - Te Panthers (7-2, 5-1 CIAA N) rebounded from
a 7-0 halfime defcit, scoring twice afer Elizabeth City State turnovers in the third quarter and then
held on to knock of the Vikings, 14-7. VUU‘s Robert Jackson recovered a Tyrell Houghton fumble at
the ECSU 31 leading to a 15-yard TD pass from QB Dane James to Jussie York midway thru the third
quarter. On the ensuing possession, Willie Bailey picked of a Houghton pass at midfeld and returned it
to the ECSU 34. Six plays later, Lenworth Lennon (17 carries, 137 yards) covered the fnal two yards for
the score with 2:34 lef in the period. VUU picked of four ECSU passes and recovered two fumbles.
Te wins by VSU and VUU set up a game this Saturday, Nov. 8 at VUU for the CIAA North
Division championship and berth in the CIAA Championship Game.
• MORGAN STATE - Running back Herb Walker Jr. scored his fourth touchdown of the day
on a 17-yard pass from QB Moses Skillon (21-32-0, 252 yards) with 1:22 lef to propel Morgan State to
a tough 38-35 win at the Hampton homecoming. With the win, the Bears (5-4, 4-1) stayed tied for frst
in the MEAC. Walker scored on runs of 12, 21 and 1 yards, the last two in the fourth quarter as the Bears
went up 31-20 afer trailing 20-17 entering the period. Hampton came back to score back-to-back touch-
downs, the last with 2:42 lef on a fve-yard run by Christopher Dukes. A short Anthony Prevost kickof
was returned to the Hampton 48 and an unsportsmanlike penalty on the Pirates allowed Morgan to start
the drive at the Hampton 33. Tey needed six plays to reach paydirt.
• BCSP No. 9 NORFOLK STATE - Te Spartans (4-5, 4-1) scored on an 8-yard pass from
Malik Stokes to Isaac White with 6:20 lef in the fourth quarter and later stopped Florida A&M QB
Damien Fleming on a 3rd-and-goal to hold on for a 12-10 win and stay tied for frst place in the MEAC.
NSU led 6-0 at the half on two Cameron Marouf feld goals of 26 and 47 yards. FAMU came back to
lead 10-6 on a Fleming TD pass late in the third period and a 42-yard Chase Vanadore feld goal early in
the fourth.
• BCSP No. 5 BETHUNE-COOKMAN - Trailing 20-17 entering the fourth
quarter, Bethune-Cookman got three rushing touchdowns from RB Anthony Jordan to
propel the Wildcats (7-2, 4-1 MEAC) to a 34-20 win over North Carolina Central and
retain a share of frst place in the MEAC. NCCU led 14-7 at the half but could manage
only a 4-yard Andre Clarke third-quarter TD run, his second of the game, in the second
half. B-CU got 100-yard rushing days and a rushing TD each from from QB Lary Brihm
(13 car., 104 yds.) and RB Michael Jones (12 car., 117 yds.).
• BCSP No. 4 SOUTH CAROLINA STATE - Te Bulldogs (6-3, 4-1 MEAC)
ran out to a 42-0 halfime lead, led 52-0 afer three quarters and settled for a 59-7 win over Savannah
State to remain tied for frst in the MEAC. RB Jalen Simmons, who ran for 115 yards, started the scor-
ing with TD runs of 16 and 17 yards in the frst quarter.

• JOHNSON C. SMITH - Te Golden Bulls (2-7, 1-5) scored on a 27-yard pass from
QB Keahn Wallace to Chris Patterson with just two seconds lef in the game to win its frst CIAA
game of the season, 14-10 over Saint Augustine‘s. Wallace connected with wideout Fred Scott with
3:30 lef to give JCSU its frst lead at 7-3. Saint Augustine‘s then drove 66 yards in 11 plays to go up
10-7 with just 32 seconds lef on a Cyril Davis to Claytin Lewis 8-yard scoring toss.
JCSU returned the ensuing kickof to its own 44. Wallace completed a 29-yard pass before
hitting Patterson for the game winner.
JCSU RB Leander Barney ran for 140 yards on 24 carries to lead the Golden Bull ground
attack. Te JCSU defense had 13 tackles for losses including three sacks, picked of one pass and
recovered two fumbles.
• HOWARD - William Parker ran for 151 yards and QB Greg McGhee threw two TD
passes as the Bison (2-7, 1-5) won their frst MEAC game, 17-10 over Delaware State. One McGhee
scoring pass went to Parker from 8 yards out early in the fourth quarter. Te other covered 52 yards
to Richard Ayegoro in the second quarter. DelState RB Jamal Jackson ran for 107 yards on 21 car-
ries and scored the Hornets‘ only TD on an 18-yard fourth-quarter run.

• FAYETTEVILLE STATE - Te Broncos of Fayetteville State (6-4, 5-1) got a 45-yard feld
goal from Antonio Mayo in the second overtime to knock of Livingstone 31-28 and earn a season-
ending date at home Saturday vs. Winston-Salem State for the CIAA South Division title. Te
teams ended regulation tied at 21 afer FSU scored with 1:32 lef on an 11-yard pass from Derek
Bryant to Chris Hubert. In the frst OT, Livingstone QB Drew Powell hit Arthur Bowden with a
20-yard scoring toss. FSU countered with a 2-yard Bryant TD run to tie the score at 28. Afer Mayo
kicked his feld goal, Livingstone had a 32-yard TD pass to Austin Higgins wiped out by a penalty
as the game ended.
• WINSTON-SALEM STATE - Te Rams (8-1, 6-0) passed for three
touchdowns in the frst half and ran for fve more scores in the second half in
a 61-10 rout of Shaw setting up a showdown at Fayetteville State Satuday for
the South Division title. WSSU passed for 252 yards led by 241 yards and two
TDs from Rudy Johnson (13-21-0). Maurice Lewis ran for 155 yards and one
35-yard score while Tyree Massey added two short scoring runs.
• BCSP No. 10 TUSKEGEE - Running back
Michael Tornton ran for 198 yards on just 16 carries and scored on
runs of 3, 2 and 57 yards as Tuskegee (7-2, 6-0) hung on for a 28-25 win
over Central State and set up a season-ending game at Miles next week
for the SIAC West Division title with the winner playing Nov. 15 for the
SIAC title. CSU QB Michael Wilson matched Tornton, rushing for 193
yards on 30 carries with one TD and throwing for two other scores to
keep the Marauders close.
• MILES - Te Golden Bears intercepted a pass
from Stillman QB Josh Straughan in the end zone
with 38 seconds to play to preserve a see-saw 26-22
win. Miles will host Tuskegee next week with the
winner taking the SIAC West title and berth in the
league title game on Nov. 15. Jonathan Clark rushed for 208 yards on 25 car-
ries and scored one TD in the game that saw six lead changes.
• ALBANY STATE- Running back Jarvis Small
carried 37 times for 234 yards and scored on TD runs of 9, 3, 4 and 29 yards to
lead the Golden Rams (7-2, 6-0) past Benedict, 40-14. Adrian Alexander also
had two rushing scores as ASU ran for 325 yards in the win. Te win com-
bined with Fort Valley State‘s loss to Morehouse gives the Golden Rams the
East Division title and spot in the Nov. 15 SIAC Championship game vs. either
Tuskegee or Miles.

CIAA 1,000-YARD RUSHER
- Saint Augustines running back Roderick Davenport ran for 83 yards on 22 carries vs. John-
son C. Smith to go over 1,000 yards on the season. Te CIAA rushing leader now has 1,021 yards on the
season with one game lef in the regular season. His total is the second highest for a Falcons player in the
modern era.
MEAC MVP FAVORITE?
- Morgan State sophomore RB Herb Walker Jr. ran for only 67 yards but scored three rushing
TDs and grabbed one TD reception in the Bears thrilling 38-35 win over Hampton Saturday that kept
the Bears tied for the MEAC lead. Walker, who has three 100-plus yard rushing days and two with over
200 yards, caught 7 passes for 109 yards in the win including a game-winning 17-yarder with just over a
minute lef.
With the 67 rushing yards, Walker becomes the frst 1,000-yard rusher for the MEAC this sea-
son. He now has 1,049 yards, second best in black college football, and is averaging 6.4 yards per carry
and 131.8 yards per game. Walker has 12 rushing touchdwons and two receiving scores and also leads all
black college scorers with 14 TDs and 84 points, 10.5 points per game.
SWAC MVP?
- SWAC and black college rushing leader Malcolm Cyrus of Alabama State continued his
torrid pace despite the Hornets‘ 28-21 loss to Southern. Cyrus ran for 185 yards on 21 carries and scored
on 37-and 2-yard runs. It was his seventh 100-yard rushing day of the season. Cyrus now has 1,245 yards
thru nine games, averaging 6.5 yards per carry and 138.3 yards per game. Cyrus is sixth in the FCS in
rushing yards per game.
MEAC RACE - AND THEN THERE WERE FIVE
– Bethune-Cookman‘s 34-20 win over N. C. Central knocked the Eagles out of a frst-place
tie in the MEAC. Wins by Norfolk State, Morgan State and S. C. State Saturday leaves them tied with
North Carolina A&T and B-CU with 4-1 records with three games lef in the regular season.
DOWN TO THE WIRE RACES - CIAA
- Wins by Virginia Union and Virginia State mean their season-ending battle in Richmond this
week will determine the North Division winner and the team that will represent the North in the CIAA
Championship Game in Durham, N.C. on Nov. 15.
Ditto in the South, where wins by Winston-Salem State and Fayetteville State sets up their
showdown for the division title in Fayetteville Saturday. Te winner will represent the South in the title
game.
ALBANY STATE IS IN - SIAC
- Albany State‘s win and Fort Valley State‘s loss gives the SIAC East title and the Nov. 15th
SIAC Championship Game berth to the Golden Rams. ASU will meet FVSU in the Fountain City Classic
in Columbus, Ga. Saturday to end the regular season.
Tuskegee meets Miles in Fairfeld, Alabama Saturday to see who wins the West and will face
Albany State in the title game.
GRAMBLING CONTINUES TO ROLL, SOUTHERN, TOO - SWAC
Grambling State kept its SWAC record clean at 6-0 with a 35-7 win over Texas Southern. GSU
QB Johnathan Williams (19-26-1, 197 yards) threw for two TDs and rushed (19 carries, 71 yards) for
another score in the win. Williams completed passes to 11 diferent receivers.
Southern stayed one game behind the G-Men at 5-1 in the SWAC with a 28-21 win over Ala-
bama State. Southern QBAustin Howard‘s 9-yard scoring run in the fourth quarter was the diference.
Howard completed 25 of 47 passes for 291 yards and two scores in the win. Two SU receivers topped 100
yards, Reggie Travis (9 rec., 153 yards, 1 TD) and Willie Quinn (9 rec., 100 yards 1 TD).
Alcorn State (5-1 E), who was idle, has a two-game lead over Alabama A&M in the SWAC East.
Te two will meet this week in Huntsville, Alabama.
