Red Blood Cells
Red blood cells are the most common type of blood cells, and they carry oxygen around your body in haemoglobin, an iron-containing biomolecule that can bind oxygen. Red blood cells are only red because of hemoglobin, which is bright red in colour. Oxygenated blood is red in colour, and deoxygenated blood is blue. When blue blood (deoxygenated blood) comes to the surface because of a cut, it turns red because of contact with oxygen in the air. Red blood cells develop in the bone marrow and circulate around your body for about 100 120 days in the body before they re recycled. They have a disk diameter of 6 8 µm (1µm=1 micrometre) and a thickness of 2 µm, so they re much smaller than most other human cells.Adult humans have roughly 2 3 × 1013 (20-30 trillion) red blood cells at any given time. About a quarter of the cells in the human body are red blood cells. They are a circular shape with a dip in the middle.

White Blood Cells
White blood cells are part of the immune system and they defend your body against infections and diseases by eating up germs or making antibodies to destroy germs. Although most are round, they have different shapes and appearances, and some can appear spikey. White blood cells have a short life cycle, living from a few days to a few weeks. The number of white blood cells in the body can be an indicator of disease. A large amount can mean the body is fighting and infection or disease, and a small amount most probably means the body has a disease and is weakened. A small amount of white blood cells leaves your body at risk. There are normally between 4×109 and 1.1×1010 white blood cells in a litre of blood, making up approximately 1% of blood in a healthy adult.
