About Bugs Tan
Fellow University Technology of Malaysia
Mr. Bugs Tan is one of the most
outstanding inventors in the country. He
has 15 national awards to his name. He
received the National Innovation Award
from the Prime Minister in 2007. In 2009,
he was honoured in India with an
International Excellence Award for
Innovation. In 2012 he was made a Fellow
and was also inducted into the Innovation
Hall of Fame at the University Technology
of Malaysia
Over the past decade, Bugs has created a string of indigenous inventions, of which some are
sold in the market place. One of such good product is the Litewalk steel grating panels which
are used on oil platforms and heavy industry.
As part of his contribution to the nation, he has served as a Fellow Researcher at the
Institute Sultan Iskandar. He also served as a Judge in many invention competitions notably,
the James Dyson Award (UK), CIGIF (Korea), IDEAS Malaysia Inventor’s Challenge, MyInovasi,
National Academic Award and a few others.
Bugs is also a certified trainer. He uses an unique course developed by himself – Creative
and Innovative Practising Company (CIPCO). The CIPCO training is a short one day program
with the focus of changing the mind-set and attitude of the staff in an organization towards
creativity and innovations
Bugs currently served as Innovation Consultant to the Logistic Dept at the Royal Malaysian
Police. He also served as an Innovation Advisor to several companies in Malaysia and
abroad.
