Corner
let’s play ball!
I
know “Let’s Play Ball!” may seem a bit out of place for
the title of an article in a business publication, but for
those of you who attended our Annual Dinner on
May 8, you had a chance to hear why I think sports
metaphors work to describe our Chamber goals for
the next fiscal year. For those of you who weren’t able
to make the Annual Dinner – “Tailgate Style,” let me
explain.
I was asked several times about the theme, mostly
about what to wear, but also why I chose it. The simple
answer is because I love sports. Which is ironic since I’m
not a particularly athletic person. But I love the competition. I love watching individuals strive for their personal
best. I love when a group of men, become a group of boys
enthusiastically bouncing up and down on home plate to
celebrate a victory.
I especially love when a team comes together to do
something great that they couldn’t have done as individuals. And that’s the heart of what I want to focus on next
year – how we can build on our existing partnerships and
create new ones to do more than we could on our own.
We are already doing this with many of our Chamber activities – working with the city on our business ombudsman program, with the school district on GOTCHA,
with other Chambers like the Fairfield-Suisun Chamber
on the Leadership Today program, and with Travis
Air Force Base through the
Travis Regional Armed Forces
Committee. These are just a
few examples of how we are
already partnering with other organizations and I look
forward to exploring how we can expand our partnerships to do great things for our businesses and for our
community as a whole.
Thank you to our Board of Directors for your stewardship of the Chamber – you are a dedicated, talented
and fun group of people and it is an honor to be your
Chairwoman for 2015-16. And a special thank you to
our 2014-15 Chairman, Tracy Mitchell, for his leadership and passion for the Chamber over the past year.
As we say goodbye to two outgoing Directors,
Katheryn Tuberty and Joanie Erickson, we also welcome
four new ones to our team: Allan Haddox, Jamie Healer,
Ed Rapisarda and Karen Seymour. We also welcome
our new President/CEO, Becky Craig, who I know will
bring new insight and enthusiasm to the helm of our
Chamber.
I am excited about our upcoming Chamber year, the
possibilities ahead of us and the partnerships we will
nurture and grow. Most of all . . . let’s have fun doing it,
and as they say, let’s play ball!

W
ow! What an amazing business community we have in Vacaville. The diversity
of ownership, size, location, products and
services is healthy. Further, it is refreshing to see such breadth represented in
the Chamber’s membership. I have met many of you in
my first weeks on the job and I want to say thank you
for providing this time. Your interests in the Chamber of
Commerce assure me that our organization can provide a
variety of programming to serve your needs.
We will continue hosting two networking opportunities – the Morning Wake-Ups and the Monthly Mixers.
These monthly events provide a great setting for new
and seasoned business people to learn and connect. The
Ambassadors excel with introductions for newer members
all while hosting fun events. Please schedule one of the
upcoming events on your calendar to come and see for
yourself.
A few of the other programs available to members
include:
• Mentoring – new business owners will be matched
with experienced Chamber members to provide the advice
necessary to thrive. This program is a one-year mentoring
relationship personally tailored for the new business to
make fewer mistakes while connecting to the community.
• Consultation – a business assistance program for
entrepreneurs that provides 15-minute free consultations
in a variety of service fields, including banking, accounting,
legal, marketing, insurance, real estate and more.
• Ombudsman – applicants for city planning and
6 | Vacaville Chamber of Commerce
building permits can request
assistance in articulating the
process effectively. Whether
you need a certificate of occupancy, tenant improvement, conditional use permit or
other, staff is ready to help navigate.
• Advocacy – state and local governments consider
new fees and regulations that affect businesses. We will
monitor and educate membership on potential impacts.
Further, the Chamber is prepared to advocate for fair
treatment to ensure a healthy community.
Please contact the Chamber if you are interested in
benefiting from one of these programs.
Your Chamber Board worked extra hours this year to
address organizational issues and to prepare this organization for the future. Staff wants to thank Chairman Tracy
Mitchell and his excellent group of Directors for their
leadership and service. We now say farewell to Katheryn
Tuberty and Joanie Erickson for their many years of dedication to the Chamber and know that they will continue
to serve our members well.
Chairwoman Debbie Egidio is welcoming four new
Directors onto the Board in July. At the Retreat scheduled
in mid-June, the Board will assess our current programs to
determine where we will focus our efforts for Year 201516. The Board and staff welcome your ideas. We will share
that vision in the next issue.
Sincerely,
Becky Craig | President/CEO

Golfers Take Note:
26th Annual Cowtown Classic
is Coming Up
I
t’s that time again for the most popular golf tournament of the year, the Vacaville Chamber of
Commerce’s 26th Annual Cowtown Classic. This
year’s event will be held at Green Tree Golf
Club in Vacaville on Friday, Sept. 11 with a
10 a.m. check-in and a noon shotgun start. The
price is $150 per golfer. This price includes
your green fees, cart fee, barbecue lunch, barbecue dinner, interactive holes, tee prize bag,
contests throughout the day, and HOSTED
beer, water and soda ALL DAY!
This much-anticipated Cowtown Classic
Golf Tournament is right around the corner.
This year’s event celebrates 26 years of offering
not only a great networking opportunity, but
an opportunity to promote the community and
bring the business community together for a day
of fun in the sun.
We have already opened the signups for this year’s
golf tournament. If you would like to play, sponsor or
donate to either the silent auction or raffle, please give the
Chamber a call at 707-448-6424 and we will email you the
Cowtown Classic registration and sponsorship forms. These
forms are also available on our website at
www.vacavillechamber.com.
The Chamber is offering some various levels of sponsorships and we hope you will consider taking advantage of
these wonderful packages.
If you are not a player but would like to be involved, you
can consider becoming one of our Interactive Hole Sponsors. This sponsorship allows your business to set up a table
or company tent at a tee box with the opportunity to “work”
the hole by promoting your business. If you cannot make it
out to the golf course, you can also have your business represented by being a Tee Sign Sponsor. Please also consider
donating to our silent auction, raffle or goodie bags.
There are many good reasons why you should support the
Cowtown Classic as this is the
biggest fundraiser for the Vacaville
Chamber of Commerce. It provides
revenue to ensure the Chamber has the resources to, in turn,
provide its members and the business community with the
educational tools to thrive.
Don’t wait! Call the Chamber today at 707-448-6424 to
secure your spot at the 26th Annual Vacaville Chamber of
Commerce Cowtown Classic golf tournament.
