by BEN SHAPIRO (/COLUMNISTS/BEN-SHAPIRO) 18 Feb 2013, 12:41 PM PDT POST A COMMENT (/BIGGOVERNMENT/2013/02/18/BROWN-PAROLES-CONVICTED-MURDERERS#COMMENTS)
In 1988, Massachusetts Governor Michael Dukakis lost his presidential race in no small part due to the fact that he had paroled violent criminals. Taking a page from Dukakis’ book, California Governor Jerry Brown is now making a habit of paroling convicted murders (http://www.latimes.com/news/local /la-me-ff-brown-parole-20130215,0,7673476.story). According to Brown, he expunged the records of 128 felons last year, and also gave the greenlight to parole for 377 convicted murders, a full 81 percent of all those the parole board recommended go free. Virtually all other California governors have rejected such pleas from the parole board.
Some of the murderers who will now walk the streets of California include: Bert Cole, 43, a former Graveyard Crip who shot a man to death after mistaking him for a competing gang member; Lawrence Owens, 43, who kicked and punched a man over a $20 drug deal, then watched his friend beat him to death with a concrete slab. According to Brown, the courts have been pushing hard to release inmates slated for release by the parole board. But that’s no excuse. There may be a Willie Horton in Jerry Brown’s future – and a bevy of victims, too. This bad situation could get worse if the state distributes weapons to the convicts and deputizes them.

The democrats plan for America. 1) Take away law abiding citizens guns. 2) Release convicted murderers. Great plan. You get who you vote for.

Mexifornia is an example of Socialist absurdity. If a teenager installs a "go faster" air filter on his Honda, the car could be impounded and heavy fines imposed....yet real criminals go unpunished. Good to know the Comrades have their priorities in order....

Gonna play devil's advocate here, the parole board recommended that these criminals go free yes? The two
men mentioned, both 43, would seemingly have been in prison for roughly 20 years (not many 40 year old gang members) . . . so, what did Brown do wrong here? I fully realize that releasing a convicted murderer on parole at any point is dicey and takes great risks, however, I do not see fault with what Brown did. Parole board recommended release for criminals who have served 20 years already. That is what I'm seeing. Are you seeing something different?

But at least California has a balanced budget-on paper. So they've got that going for 'em...which is nice.

We'll let murderers free then blame the murder rate on guns. Makes perfect sense if you incredibly stupid. Forks cause fatness, bottles cause alcoholism, cars cause drunk driving, etc, etc.

Gov. Moronbeam has the blood on his hands of everyone who is killed by one of these murderers. The jackass has definitely proven to be the ideal mascot for the Dimwit party.

What exactly is "an inmate scheduled for release"? Evidently it is not an inmate who has been granted release...How could any court, any governor, any social worker, any bleeding heart possibly think that a man who abetted in beating someone to death with a concrete slab should ever see the light of day? This is NOT okay. Throw these people in a dungeon - you might toss in a few concrete slabs - and let them rot.

If the serial murderer Dorner had survived his suicide and the conflagration, he could have been parolled by Gov Moonbeam. CA, a once fine state, circles the drain, closer with each spin.

Well now these poor souls should be given a real nice apartment. And a nicer income with no labor. Oh, and give them their god given right to vote. And maybe a real nice laz-z-boy recliner. Like why stop at just letting them free? Let's coddle them all the way.

I just don't understand some people, the same people that fight to save murderers' freedom, fight for the right to kill babies. I just don't understand some people. Does one have to understand evil, to see evil when it stands in in the open??

This Californian has guns at both ends of the house for just that reason. And, since I can't have a legal CC, I train in Krav Maga. Living in a fascist, criminals-first state means I have to be ready. My wife is too.
