President’s Address
Dear Friends and Colleagues, The magazine Building Design & Construction did a recent survey of 300 large AEC firms and contractors. The question they asked was: "Is BIM paying off—through cost savings, higher quality, or client satisfaction?" The main conclusion was that BIM is an important part of their practice and a firm must be prepared to invest in its staff, time and money to perfect it. Here is what their principals are saying: "Our most recent in-house analysis of project labor costs on comparable CAD/BIM projects is showing an increase in BIM projects over CAD projects."
- Perkins Eastman, Chair/CEO Bradford Perkins

From our Bloggers:
In the spirit of the Olympics...the DesignCenter picks ups a few more Medals! Isaac Harper, AEC Technical Consultant I wanted to point out that if you haven’t used the DesignCenter (AKA Ctrl+2) in a while..??? To refresh your memory, it’s that palette that looks and acts like the Windows Explorer that allows you to navigate to any of your existing files using a familiar tree structure and Manage and Share all sorts of “content” from that drawing file, right into your current drawing without even opening the source file! Keeping it Simple in Revit - Workflow Improvements from Autodesk Lab to Bringing Inventor Content into Revit David Metcalf, AEC Technical Consultant Getting Inventor content into Revit just got simpler from this tool in the Autodesk Labs. In case Inventor and Revit users didn’t know this, the work flow process using Shrinkwrap feature in Inventor got a big boost with the release from Autodesk Labs with a download called Inventor Simplification. It’s free technology review that offers better control of what to keep or remove from the Inventor model to export. Read More

Query This, Query That, Survey Queries Are Where It’s At! Ron Couillard, AEC Technical Consultant

Civil 3D 2013 has introduced the new capability of performing queries on survey items from the database. These new survey queries can be made for a few different reasons that can turn out to be valuable and time saving. One area that is a time saver is using a queries to build a surface from. New in the Prospector, under the definition of a surface, you will now see the ability to add points and figures to a surface from a survey query as seen in the image below. Read More
