CAMPUS CRIME ALERT

The California State University, Northridge Department of Police Services is providing this notice of a criminal incident that occurred in our community in order to provide information that may help in avoiding a similar crime or provide information to solve this crime.

VEHICLE BURGLARIES/ATTEMPT BURGLARIES
DATE & TIME OF OCCURRENCE: December 9, 2009, between 9:00am -10:30pm LOCATION: B-1 Parking Lot, southwest side of campus near Nordhoff Street REPORTED OFFENSE: Three vehicle burglaries were reported to university police, all of which occurred in the B-1 parking lot. In two of these incidents, suspect(s) gained entry by smashing the car window and took electronic equipment. In one incident, no forced entry was observed. SUSPECT DESCRIPTION/SUSPECT VEHICLE: No suspect(s) or vehicle was seen.

Vehicle burglaries are an on-going problem at CSUN and in the surrounding community and CSUN Police are working to combat the problem. If you have been a victim or have any information regarding the recent burglaries, please call the CSUNPD Investigations Unit at: (818) 677-3826 or (818) 677-3901

CRIME PREVENTION TIPS Do not leave valuable/electronic property in your vehicle - do not leave valuable property in plain view. Take the items with you or leave them at home. Do not leave valuable property in your trunk as sometimes entry to the trunk is gained from the interior (back seat) of the vehicle. Program CSUN Police numbers into your phone - CSUN university police is the responding law enforcement agency for on-campus crime. CSUN PD dispatch- (818) 677-2111. Utilize the emergency blue light phones to report emergencies or crimes in progress to CSUN police. There are over 60 emergency phones throughout campus. Use these phones to be automatically connected to CSUN police dispatchers in the event of a police, fire or medical emergency. Be a good witness - If you observe a crime in progress call the police immediately! Describe exactly what you observed with as many details as possible. Give complete descriptions such as gender, race, age, height, weight, hair color, clothing, tattoos, etc. Try to get the license plate if a vehicle is involved.
