Stan Schultz waits patiently to receive a heart transplant so he can get back the country life he once knew
Osakis – Somewhere there is a man with a good heart who is likely to have an untimely death. But his heart will beat on because he decided to become an organ donor. Meanwhile, Stan Schultz sits in his hospital room at Abbott Northwestern and waits. It’s been 90 days since he was admitted and put on the transplant list for a new heart.
“I never expected to be here this long,” said Schultz. “There just isn’t enough to keep the mind occupied for that many days.”
Schultz is only 61 years old, but has a long history of heart problems. An avid outdoorsman, when he was just 38 years old he was walking to check on a deer stand when he began experiencing chest pains. Because he was an EMT, he recognized the seri- ousness of the symptoms and returned home. Later that day when the symp- toms lingered, he went to the emergen- cy room and was diagnosed with hav- ing a heart attack.
“Things just sort of progressed from there,” he said.

St. Rosa – Mornings around 5:30, Scot Storm often nds himself in his studio painting a wildlife scene, his cup of coffee perched on a table near his paint palette. As the sun rises, or a cloudy day appears, the world wakes up around him in the rural St. Rosa home where he lives with wife Kris and their 16-year-old twins, Logan and Summer. His binoculars are close by in case he spies wildlife, like birds, pheasants, deer or ducks, and his cam- era is ready to snap a photo.
It’s scenes like this that Storm draws upon for his paintings, at times setting up scenes near a pond in their yard. His “Tranquil Waters” painting, depicting three ducks in a stream, seen through these windows, earned him the Ducks Unlimited 2014 Artist of the Year. His paintings have earned him other state and federal awards, but to him the best reward is when a painting meets his expectations or that of the person he painted it for. PHOTOS BY CAROL MOORMAN

Boiler Operator
This position is responsible for the safe, reliable, and eff-
cient operation of power plant Boiler Equipment in support of
Plant Operation and in full compliance of all applicable laws,
regulations, policies, and procedures.
The Boiler Operator monitors power plant auxiliary equip-
ment including the fuel handling system, ash handling system,
water supply system, and emissions control components such
as the fabric flter and lime preparation equipment. Ìn accom-
plishing these duties, the individual must be capable of oper-
ating mobile equipment such as a forklift and skid steer loader,
and is required to maintain logs, records, and data sheets
while working a rotating shift including nights and weekends.
The individual should have good troubleshooting skills, be ca-
pable of performing routine maintenance, and have an overall
understanding of plant processes.

On-Shift Maintenance Mechanic
Under the general direction of the Maintenance Manager, is
responsible for performing precision work with a wide variety of
tools and equipment in the repair, installation and maintenance
of mechanical components in the power generating facility.
In accomplishing these duties, the individual must be capable
of following blueprint sketches and procedures, perform repair
and maintenance work including tasks such as drilling, tapping,
lathe operations, milling machine work, surface grinding, metal
heating/cutting , and quality control all the while following safety
and environmental rules and regulations.
The individual should have good troubleshooting skills, be
capable of performing routine maintenance, have an overall
understanding of plant processes, be self-motivated, and be able
to work with limited supervision.
Minimum requirements for the position include:

· 4+ years' experience as mechanic/machinist preferably
in a power plant environment
· a valid driver's license
· Licensed to weld boilers, high pressure piping and

Steam Turbine Operator
This position, under the general supervision of the Operations
Manager, is responsible to start, stop, regulate, and monitor the
following systems to achieve safe, effcient, and reliable oper-
ation and in full compliance of all applicable laws, regulations,
policies, and procedures: Boiler and associated equipment
including fuel feeders and draft fans, Turbine Generator, Water
Treatment equipment, Chemical pumps, Supply systems, and
Closed Cooling Water System.
In accomplishing these duties, the individual must be capable
of operating mobile equipment such as a forklift and skid steer
loader, and is required to maintain logs, records, and data
sheets while working a rotating shift including nights and week-
ends. Ability to perform functional testing of plant systems and
components and interpret acceptability of data in comparison
with established standards or sound power plant practices.
The individual should have good troubleshooting skills, be
capable of performing routine maintenance, and have an overall
understanding of plant processes.

Jennie-O Turkey Store has an immediate opening for a Boiler/
Refrigeration Specialist at our Willmar Ave. Plant in Willmar,
MN. This 2nd shift position works Monday - Saturday, Sundays
as needed. The starting wage is $14.75 per hour or more
based on experience and license.
Successful applicants will have previous boiler/refrigeration
experience. They will enjoy working in a state-of-the-art
processing facility trouble shooting heating/cooling/ventilation
equipment, replacing components and supporting operations.
Ideal candidates must have a special boiler license or higher
and be able to pass physicals for respirator use and be on the
HAZMAT team (HAZWOPER). Candidates must also be able
to lift in excess of 40 lbs and read, write, and speak English.
They must have the ability to operate boiler(s) and maintain
refrigeration systems in the plant environment. Preferred
qualications include prior ammonia refrigeration/boiler
operation experience, a 1st class boiler operator license (per
State of MN) and 3 years related work experience with boil-
ers and knowledge of gas/oil burners technology.

“When you have nine people in the family, it’s pretty tough dealing with
bad water,” said Denise Birman from their family’s farm home in the
Tracy, MN, area. “For nine long years we spent thousands of dollars
fighting a losing battle trying to solve a severe iron, sulfur and hardness
water problem.”
“We had purchased and had installed five different water treatment
systems, and none of them could handle the iron and the smell,” said
Joe Birman, Denise’s husband. “We were at our wits end, until
fortunately, a neighbor of ours who has had Erickson Water equipment
for years recommended that we call Erickson Water. Erickson Water was
like an oasis in the desert as we had nowhere else to turn. Since
installing Erickson Water water treating equipment, our water problem is
now over. We don’t have anymore iron or hardness and the rotten egg
smell is gone.”

white shirts and linens turned rusty,” said Denise. “Unbelievable! Even
my hair and my daughter Jasmin’s hair turned rusty - how embarrassing!
Also, I hated cooking potatoes and pasta because they turned brown

“Our children wouldn’t drink the water because it smelled like rotten
eggs,” said Joe. “With nine people in our family, we had to haul a lot of
drinking water.”
A water analysis done by Erickson Water Treatment revealed high
levels of iron and sulfur along with hardness in the Birmans water. A

Joe is an ex-serviceman who is a crane operator for a local ethanol plant
that converts corn into fuel.
