11 Jan 13 • Reply • Retweet • Favorite MANILA, Philippines - Four people were injured in an accident involving 14 vehicles on a rainy Friday night on EDSA, authorities said. The accident, which occurred at EDSA Guadalupe southbound under the MRT station, was caused by a truck that allegedly lost its brakes. The truck, which was carrying gravel and sand, first hit a bus and a car.

The wet road worsened the situation, with other vehicles adding to the pile-up. Two trucks, a tanker, a bus, a container van, 2 Hi-Ace vans, a Honda City car, 4 taxis, and a Starex van were all involved. Fri. Tito Caluag, who was on board the Starex van, said the slippery road prevented them from avoiding the accident. Caluag said he would have been crushed by the impact if he did not jump to the left side of the vehicle. The entire right side of his van was destroyed. Elderly passengers of one Hi-Ace van involved in the accident were also visibly shaken. Rescue teams from the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority and nearby barangays were immedialy deployed to the area to help the victims. The accident also caused a massive traffic gridlock along EDSA. Police Officer 3 Cesar Bueno said the driver of the truck that caused the accident will be charged with reckless imprudence and multiple damage to property. - report from Eric Dastas, dzMM
