History
‡ Mercedes-Benz is a German manufacturer of luxury automobiles, buses, coaches, and trucks. ‡ It is currently a division of the parent company, Daimler AG, after previously being owned by DaimlerChrysler and Daimler-Benz. ‡ Mercedes-Benz has its origins in Karl Benz's creation of the first automobile in January 1886, ‡ The first Mercedes-Benz brand name vehicles were produced in 1926, ‡ following the merger of Karl Benz's and Gottlieb Daimler's companies into the Daimler-Benz company. Mercedes-Benz has, over the years, introduced many technological and safety innovations that have become common in modern vehicles.

About E-CLASS
‡ The Mercedes-Benz E-Class is a range of executive size cars manufactured by Mercedes-Benz in various engine and body configurations. ‡ a new feature in volume production vehicles at the time that the E-Class first appeared, with the E as a suffix to the engine nomenclature (e.g. 220E) in the 1950s. ‡ It was not until the launch of the facelifted W124 that the E was used as a prefix (i.e. E220) and the model referred to officially as the E-Class (or E-Klasse). ‡ Due the E-Class' size and durability the cars also frequently serve as taxis in European countries, Mercedes-Benz offers "taxi specification", as well as other special purpose vehicles (e.g. police or ambulance) from the factory.

Sales of Mercedes -Benz
‡ Mercedes-Benz brand sales through the end of July 2008 were up 3 percent to a record 692,000 cars, led by demand for the Mercedes-Benz SLK and SL roadsters, as well as its CLC sports coupe. ‡ Monthly sales were strongest in Asia, including China, with demand there leading to 11,500 cars sold, up 10 per cent from last year. In China, sales last month were up 69 per cent to 3,300 Mercedes-Benz sold, compared with 2,000 vehicles sold in July 2007. ‡ In the US, sales of Mercedes-Benz brand passenger vehicles rose 12 percent to 20,700 cars in July, compared with 18,600 units a year ago.

Mercedes-Benz India on Monday said it has crossed the 3,000-car sales figure so far this year, reflecting a growth of 56 percent.
